The first half was spectacularly boring. Neither team created anything and we were time wasting pretty much from the off.

Then in the second, once we got to one one, we were just passing it around at the back with no intention of going forward. It was only a matter of time before that backfired as we're simply not good enough to hold possession.

Once again, another team not on form, where there was certainly something to be taken from the match, but we've just handed the points over.

We will need a miracle to survive this season and I think we now mostly know that we won't.

Were we? I recall us being 16th having spent zero days in the relegation zone all season when he was sacked.

I’d say it was the other way round. It was a maybe before, it’s a definite now.

We’re doomed.
We’d beaten Southampton and Bournemouth. We haven’t played either since.

The two managers have played very different sets of fixtures so far. We’ll see

We'd struggled to beat Southampton, possibly the worst team ever to be in the PL and had the luckiest ever win against Bournemouth. We'd thrown away a two goal lead against Palace, drawn with Walsall, and awful Everton side who were losing to everyone at the time and were playing truly awful, dreadful football.

Anyone who thinks we were ever going to stay up under the complete **** that is responsible for where we are now is a blockhead.

We may have replaced him with a complete duffer although we don't know that for sure yet, but there can be no defence of what Cooper was allowed to do to this squad. He's a proper meatflap.

We were in decline. Just like watching a flower rot.

I don’t know if you’ve ever played in defence, but you are absolutely taught to head it high and wide away from goal, he did the exact opposite and it went straight to an opponent in a dangerous area.

He’s 10 feet tall, it looked like he barely made the head, nevermind heading it higher or wider. There were two players behind him and it would’ve gone straight to them with a clear one-on-one, if he didn’t put at least something on it.

He made the right decision. Villa’s forward players were well placed and the cross had venom. He heads it the best he can, it went to Barkley, who scored a screamer from 20 yards.

Let it bounce = one on one 6 yards out

OR

Get something on it, Barkley at 20 yards?

You’d have moaned if he left it.

Spot on. He did absolutely what he could with his header. He headed it away from danger out of the penalty area. That's his job. No one was there to do the next job which is to clear up.

But like I say, he's the pantomime villain at the moment, no matter how well he does. He's the absolute least of our worries. Justin, Coady, Kristiansen, Mavididi, Faes, Okoli... these are all bigger worries and much worse performers this year than Vestergaard.

Don't get me wrong, we need better CBs than both Vestergaard and Coady but the stick the former gets is disproportionate.

If we get one CB in, he'd be paired with Vestergaard as our next best defender.

We started okay under Cooper. We were competitive and you could see that he was trying to wrestle a style from a group that didn't want to do what he asked of them. However, as soon as the performance levels dropped off, they dropped off a cliff. By the end, it was embarrassing and Cooper had to go.

RvN was clearly brought in to bring everyone onside. He appears to have done this as the group seem comfortable playing the way they're being asked to now. However, we've got softer as a team too. We are lacking in aggression and tactical combativeness compared to earlier in the season.

So we've gone from one doomed approach to another. It's really missing the point to argue the difference between Cooper and RvN. It's the feckwits that made it all happen that need the attention.

Totally agree. The appointment was always a huge gamble. We're a toy now.

Either way relegation happens. Doesn’t matter who picks the team if so many of them are shite. Ferguson at the height of his powers couldn’t get **** all out of what might as well be a bunch of wheelie bins.

I’m not suggesting in the slightest that he should leave it, so I’ve no idea why you keep saying that? Please feel free to point out where I’ve said that, if you think I have done.

By the very nature of the header, in that it went downwards, he is obviously “above” it, as it’s physically impossible to head a ball downwards unless you’re above it.

As I said before, he’s clearly not the only player at fault in this goal, but to suggest he doesn’t have some level of fault in the goal is ridiculous. It was a poor header, that’s the sum total of his involvement, but it was one factor that ultimately ended up in the goal.

On why he is changing his defenders every game.....

I would imagine it's been largely tactical as we've been chasing games, bringing in more attacking players - leaving us more open at the back. So changing the center backs gives us more mobility and pace.

If we had decent center backs we wouldn't need to make the changes

A Villa supporting friend of mine who was there said he thought Mavididi was a bit shit.

But then he also said Justin was our best player.

Honest question - when was the last time Vardy played well in a game?

I know he has 6 goals and we'd be lost without those. But seriously, he contributes absolutely nothing to team performances any more. He is just a passenger aside from occasional moments when he gets the ball in the box.
He was exceptional v Brighton - he had one of his purple patches. Back off colour now - he was absolutely panting when Ayew broke away for our equaliser
