I'm well pleased that we're still in the tie. Benalouane was my MOTM for us, perhaps he needed the rest at Everton! That was a solid defensive performance and we rarely got a look in up front.

Gone off Griezmann. Talented he may be but the hair band and card waving gestures make him a big nancy in my book ;)

So, still in it but by no means through. We'll need another top drawer defensive performance (Athletico are quick and move the ball around so well) but we'll have to make, and more importantly take, chances. A big big game.

As for the penalty. It was clearly a terrible decision, but I don't really blame the referee because it was at such a fast speed that I initially thought it was a penalty.

Of course the ref is to blame. He's metres away from the foul and looking at it. It's his job. If he isn't 100% sure that it's a penalty then it isn't a penalty. If he was 100% sure then he's inept. It's no excuse that some blind fan couldn't tell - it's not the fan's job.

Get the robots out there :D.

If the referee couldn't see it from his great view, clearly the supporters and both benches couldn't see if for definite.

If the referee couldn't see it then he shouldn't have given it. Or are you saying that he actually saw something that didn't happen?

Anyway, 1-0 down at home is fine we can do this.

A 2-0 home win away from being in the Semi-Finals of the Champion's league. The dream is still alive.

A quote from you on the Championship thread:
He's human, surpising that the other 3 referees didn't say something. Time for technology to take over.

So getting a basic rule completely wrong is forgivable because he's human. But making a call wrong that was marginal and at a fast pace is deserving of being hung drawn and quartered?

Decent performances from several in the 2nd half....even thought King's introduction was a good call despite the fact it would mean our attacking abilities were reduced further. We've given ourselves a fighters chance back at the KP.

Looked like a penalty to me at the time and not seen it back yet, but my view was significantly worse than the referee's. And I'm scared of heights.....!!

Bring on Tuesday.

It was a tough call at speed. Many refs would have got it wrong.

My annoyance is with those futile feckwits behind the goal. The so-called fifth and sixth officials. If they're not there for that sort of decision, what is the point?

I agree so much with this. I make a point of looking at them to see what they do and it's amazing how little they offer a signal for anything.

Agree completely.

At speed was a borderline decision for the referee, however what infuriated me was that he made the decision so quickly and without consultation. Very good performance and credit Shakey for making the tactical switch at half time that nullified Griezman in the second half. With the exception of the penalty, for all their possession we restricted them to very few clear cut chances.

Benny was magnificent and his emergence has been a massive bonus, the loss of Huth will be a Hugh gap to fill, personally I wouldn't risk Morgan unless 100% fit, Amartey's pace could be critical in helping mitigate the risk of their counter attacks in the return leg.

If you had read and could undestand my posts you'd have realised that I was criticising the refs - all 4 of them - that is why you and others attacked my posts.

And to be clear: A wrong call isn't marginal - it's wrong. I guess at school you blamed low marks on your answers being marginal.

And with the corner that wasn't called and the handball decision. The teams of refs are completely hopeless and these are supposedly the best in Europe. Refs are deciding games not players.

The ref was the closest official and looking at the incident - hopefully the other officials were looking too. The ref ballsed it up and the others followed like sheep.

With Regards Shakey bringing on King.

I was amazed that we didn't have the extra midfielder to start the game - our aim in the first leg should have been to come away without letting them score so that we can win the tie in the "second half" at home. I posted that we needed someone to man mark Griezmann out of the game. He is their greatest player and the pivot to their attacks.

I think Shakey was naive not to have played the extra midfielder to start. I think he was brave to bring King on after realising his error. It also goes to show that we need another midfielder who can defend - a young Hammond like player or Pontus reborn.

Ah yes!

"Hello, my name is Pontus and I will be your companion for this evening."

UEFA stats say that Vardy only attempted 2 passes in 77 mins on the pitch. Failing with both of them and had no shots on target. Haven't found the stats showing how many players he closed down yet though probably someone can point them to me. Slimani completed 3 of 5 passes in 15 minutes without a shot on target.

Stats can back up whatever argument you choose to select.

Yesterday he had no service and Okazaki was poor/nullified.

Slimani is better in the air and as we were going long and high this suited Slimani more.

Are you saying that we should have played Slimani from the start then?
