Agree to disagree and see at the start of next season a-z?

I am not doubting we have a talented squad, but these players as yet have proved little, we will finish in the bottom half of the championship, our form since January will have made a few managers sit up and take notice, but IMO the scouts will be flocking from next season and that is why I expect a difficult period in the January 2007 transfer window.

I know this is a crazy thing to think, let alone say, but look at the transformation of Kisnorbo under Kelly. Do you think there is any chance of MDV improving under RK if given a go?

Williams is another one who has certainly benefitted from Kelly taking over, what I have noticed is that on the whole since RK took over, the general form and attitude of the 14 or 15 regulars has appeared to improve dramatically.

Next season RK will need to get that level of improvement and performance out of the likes of Hamill, Sylla, Hammond, Tiatto, if he stays, and possibly De Vries, if he returns, if he can get them to perform in the games when injuries and suspensions kick in it will be the key as to whether we are challenging for the play offs or mid table mediocrity.

Billy Davies and Aidy Boothroyd have both managed with Preston and Watford respectively, to build squads IMO that are no more talented than the one we have at present, but what they have managed to install into their squad, which Levein failed to do here, is the ability to bring fringe players into the side and for them to slot into the system and pattern of play without it affecting results.

If RK can instill that organisation in the summer and can get our fringe players performing and regimented into the pattern and style of play, there is no reason why we cannot have a decent season. The key for me next season is how we deal with injuries and suspensions and whether the squad players can come in and step up to the plate.

Is it that crazy? The test of a good manager, particularly at this level, is being able to to use what is available. It was certainly a talent that MON had - making silk purses out of quite a few sows ears. As you say, RK's start has been promising in this respect and I'm looking forward to seeing what more he can do.

Also, the reserves have been doing OK, which bodes well...

I would love to see MDV back with a Kisornorbo type transformation under RK. Big, strong, held the ball up well, just no one to pass to before Fryatt and Hume came, and could mix it with big centre halves. I could see MDV or O'Grady alongside Fryatt with Hume just behind in the 'Rooney' role.

Going back to the original title of this thread, I wonder if any of them will actually be "axed", and if they will be selling tickets. Could draw quite a crowd... :icon_wink

The club have been told by another club / agent to expect a bid for Stearman in the summer, the only question is what the club will do when it comes.

As I understand it there is no pressure to sell him at this point, even though we are failing to achieve the budget due to the relatively low attendances, as the extra cash from the sale of Connolly will cover any shortfall.

If attendances do not pick up however then I think he will be sold in Jan or next summer, unless we have a realistic chance of promotion. IMO if the offer is in the £4m range I would sell and invest in other areas of the team.

I would be very surprised if the club got anywhere near 4m for Stearman, IMO we would do well to get 2 - 2.5m based on his age and current experience, another decent season in the championship could see us get nearer 3m next year.

Just a thought what if the club were offered 1.5 - 2m this summer plus the chance to loan Stearman back for the whole of next season, may not be a bad option to pursue.

If there is no pressure to sell then presumably if we did the money would be reinvested in the squad. At that point a bid of £2m would have to be accepted IMO.

Id snap anyones hands off and I think so would the club for 2m for stearman at his age/experience.

Doesn't Spearman have a contact with us until 2009 (Along with Fryatt)?

Which means we're under no pressure to sell whats so ever.

Is that Tony Spearings love child??

I believe it's at least up to 2008, possibly to 2009. He's still got a lot to learn, and if I was advising him, I'd tell him to stay at Leicester. He'll be in the shop window and not rotting in the stiffs at Man City or someone similar.

Correct in both cases.

Unless we get an inordinately large offer - and we think that we could make better use of teh money.

... unless they are verbal contracts, when they are not worth the paper they are not written on!
