Gerry Taggert released by Stoke wants a coaching role, ideal for our needs IMO.

Thought exactly the same myself, Highland, would be excellent alongside Kelly, Stowell and an experienced coach.

I think we need the best coach we can possibly get, not a former player

He'd been inspirational though Drummin and he's keen to get into the coaching side of things

i dont think you can say that someone who is inspirational as player will necessarily be inspirational as a coach/manager-look at Tony Adams

Big difference, Adams was manager at Wycombe, Taggart would only be coaching, plus he already has some coaching experience at Stoke and Boskamp strikes me as quite a shrewd operator, so he must have seen something in Taggart that convinced him to add him to his coaching team.

i would harldy call a man who falls out with his assistant manager and then refuses to talk to him a shrewd operator.

He is very well respected on the continent, and he fell out with his Assistant Manager and Director of Football because they were trying to undermine him !

i just see it as a matter of heart before head thats all-i would rather the club brought in someone with real coaching experience in this league, if it were possible, instead of choosing someone based purely on playing ability in previous years.

I understand your sentiments DD, but Gerry has to start somewhere as all managers and coaches do, I think it would be a worthwhile exercise, he has played at the top level and has considerable international experience, if we can appoint an experienced coach / Asst manager alongside as well then it would be an excellent move and very risk free.

Surely by plumping for the experienced head every time means the likes of Harry Bassett, continue getting work at the expense of maybe a Aidy Boothroyd. Give Taggart a chance, RK has proved that lacking in experience isn't always a bad thing.

If Gerry came in as a coach i dont think it would work as a lot of the players from his era have moved on!

Well thats a good thing surely, he shouldn't be a mate. They should fear and respect him

Why would they respect somebody that has no experience in coaching?
