I must have been at a different game!

First 20 minutes were pretty poor, passing was sloppy and Barnsley had their one chance of the game and probably should have scored.

After 20mins until Half Time I thought we played as well as I've seen for a while, there looked to be a consistent attempt to pass the ball to feet and there was some good patient buld up, players not afraid to keep possession even if it means going back to start again with Kisnorbo/N'Gotty and McCauley.

For that 25 min period until half time we played well, Weso ran the midfield and Newton started to play with a bit of confidence, Fryatt held the ball up well and linked midfield and attack and the wing backs started to actually enter the final third.

At 2-0 and Weso off, the second half saw Barnsley come into it again as they commited men forward against a team without a single central midfielder on the pitch. The work rate of Stearman, Fryatt, Chambers and even Newton (apart from one cross he jogged over to block) was superb and N'Gotty was a rock at the back.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I can't recall a decent effort Barnsley had in the 2nd half and we basically saw the game out without any difficulty.

Anyone expecting us to carve chances and run up a cricket score in the 2nd half with a right winger, right back and centre forward in midfield are idiots, it was obvious the 2nd half plan was to protect the lead which we did easily.

Stearman put in some superb crosses in the 2nd half and got better as the game went on.

Fryatt had little quality service in the final third but worked his arse off and when the ball was given to his feet he kept the ball well and I thought played pretty well - created a few chances of his own late in the 2nd half.

One final point, Sheehan's delivery from set pieces was superb, a real asset.

Agree with all of that. Would have beaten most teams in the championsip yesterday with hat performance. I thought Hume did really well in midfield and i would start him there again.

Newton was quite good yesterday, I think the balance of opinion on here agrees.

I thought Newton was mainly garbage, the reincarnation of the Impey model of headless chicken football; not forgetting the four or five times he kicked the ball straight out of touch because he either didn't look up, and see the player he was attempting to pass to had changed position, or simply can't kick a ball straight.

I simply cannot believe that anybody thought that there was one person on that pitch yesterday who played well. Every single one of our players was dreadful and Barnsley were just pitiful.

Diabolical and shambolic are the only words I would use to describe our performance.

Just come back, we didnt deserve the three points today. When we have the ball we dont know what to do with it, and whenever someone trys to get it forward, theyll just hoof it:icon_roll . Newton i thought improved, he did one or two good things. I dont agree with what people are saying about fryatt, i thought he played well at times, but needs to improve his heading. Sheehan wasnt used well enough and stearman still fails to show me how hes in the first team ahead of others. Collins John played ok, it looked like he scuffed the goal though lol. Carl cort didnt do as badly as people are saying, he was only on for like 10 mins anyway:102:.

What i found funny was when fryatt was throwing the free shirt into the crowd it didnt even reach the fans so he had to go and get it and throw it again :icon_lol:. Oh and on a miserable travel home due to traffic i was glad to see my question for mattock was in the programme.:).

WTF are you on about. If you score ,more goals than your rival team you get the win and the 3 points that go with it. I could not give a flying fcuk how we win as long as we do win. Winning is everything and at all costs, so don't give us that bollux we didn't deserve the points

WTF are you lot moaning at we won 2-0 at home with a decent performance, alright barnsley were shit but you can only beat whats infront of you.

FFS some people are never happy

also i thought Fryatt did ok, stearman was solid and cort did what was expected of him when he came on, won headers and kept the ball

didnt somebody say this after the sheff weds game, and then next game got beat :icon_roll

define solid? if you mean shit as a wide player then i'd say he was very solid

He did ok, did good in defence could have got forward more but overall was ok.

I would have played chambers in that position though

stearman was solid

 I agree with what people are saying about how fryatt did alright but i thought stearman was poor and with that performance i doubt we'd had beaten many imo :icon_conf

He defended well enough, but wasnt attacking enough, what more is there to say?

They have also scored 23 goals this season which i think is 3rd highest in the division and didnt really look like scoring at all yesterday. I thought going forward we weren't brilliant but were at least better than we have been, playing like that with clemence in for Newton and we start to look respectable again IMO.

Agreed, I thought it was quite a professional performance all in all, especially with the lack of midfielders on the pitch.

We looked solid, took our chances and didn't concede against a team near the play offs.

It could have been far worse.

Only thanks to the worst set piece defending I think I have ever seen (even in the Craig Levein 'zonal marking' extravaganza)

Other than that we created nothing, had no width whatseover thanks to playing five at the back, and could have let in two at the death.

V. Poor all round

Got to disagree with that. I thought we created a fair bit (for us at the moment) and certainly more than Barnsley.

Flippin 'eck, just getting rid of Megson isn't going to turn us into world beaters overnight.
2 - 0 on the day is good enough. If that is v. poor all round, then give me v. poor allround every game.

Get a reality check folks!

Winning, by any means, is all that counts.

I fully agree - I went home well happy, considering recent events

I was merely passing comment on what I actually I witnessed, which was piss poor football. But if we do that every week and get the same result then job's a good 'un
