I'm thinking Wednesday night won't be too bad. Chelsea will only need to put about 50% effort in to get a result, so i'd expect they'll knock in 2 goals early doors and then pass the ball around for the rest of the game knowing that we'll have nothing to trouble them whatsoever.

Much needed 3 points today though, not convincing but doesn't matter at this point.

Hume's cheerleaders.
Played like a cnut again today, when will the idiots stop cheering his name for misplacing headers, giving the ball away, shooting at the corner flag etc, etc.

I don't understand what they see in him, I never have, but I'd love to.

Does that apply to anybody else you know Melton...?

Collins John however.....
Doesn't stand out as anything special alex. Deserves a few more games though before being judged properly, that's if his brittle bones will him to play

isn't that the first home win this century?

seeing as watford didnt happen then yeah it must be, i sit in the south stand and i'd forgotten what it was like to see a goal scored in front of me!

Only thing i would add to what has been said is that for me Newton was man of the match. Whenever the ball was bouncing around midfield, he was the one that was composed to bring the ball under control and try to use it. I was quite impressed, considering he is a winger, looked like a competitent central midfielder today.

John, certainly looked eager, which was pleasing, needs to get sharper though to be effective, hopefully that will come with games.

Hume was getting in the way, he needs to play higher up the pitch i think.

We didn't seem as negative, i felt we were trying to attack more, but too aften we lacked width and it was too congested through the middle. Still no goal from open play.

Anyone who went to the game, what was the atmosphere like?

Brilliant first half, went flat at the start of the second though for ages. Suspect most of us thought that with Barnsley pressing we would throw it all away again so didn't want to even breathe!

Either that or the farce of a half-time compo sent us all to sleep. (Wickes 'on me shed son' thing a la Preston and Barnsley away last season)

Anyone know why loads of Barnsley fans were dancing around to Chelsea Dagger both times even though it meant a goal for us? :102:

newton was shocking first half. nearly all of his passes went out of play or to a barnsley player.
