He's not being helped by his instructions. His starting position is so high up the pitch, and we lose possession so easily that he is having to run backwards and chase the opposition all the time.

BR said on Thursday that Castagne was dropped because he was part of a defence that had conceded ten goals in the first four games so changes were required.

Direct, aggressive, no nonsense. We need to play like this more often. Be adaptable, able to mix it up. Possession when needed, direct when needed. All of this is not important though if we just can't defend.

Castagne on for Thomas at half time.

Thomas is getting done far too easily in the air and with the yellow card, massive risk.

Also get the full backs to hold back a bit more as when we lose the ball, we normally only have 2 players back.

Ndidi looked a bit nervy to begin with but seems to have settled.

Ward having a bit of a mare so far.

If we can gain some composure at the back at half time and not overly commit so much, we can still get something out of this.

If we had a centre back that wasn't Amartey on the bench, I'd bring them on for Barnes to add to the defence, but also get Maddison central so we can control the ball more to get it into our front 2

Thinking the same thing, but Castagne should come on for Thomas I would risk Amartey, play Ndidi as a DM, with Maddison pushing forward at the expense of Barnes.
