It was very difficult to judge the penalty from the complete opposite end of the ground. From my seat it looked like they ran into each other.

The referee had a dreadful game, only 30 seconds before he awarded the penalty we should have had a free kick following a blatent challenge.

Until the red card, Hobbs was by a country mile the best player on the park. I personally didn't think Brown had all that good of a game. First half he was all over the place, and didn't look composed at all. Admittedly he did have a better 2nd half.

MOTM can only be Bunn. He saved the penalty which meant we went away with 3 points. Simple as that!

We were good value for 3 points, and IMO put in a real 'Champions Performance'

A thoroughly enjoyable day out, oh and Phillips .... remember 'Howards gonna get ya' :icon_lol:

id agree with virtually all of that but i thought brown did alright imo, great day out, good weekend - oh and how shite (no pun intended) were the 'toilets' absolutely embarrasing i expect to see portaloos on the side of motorways for maintenance workers but NOT at a ground!!!!

What a great afternoon, tremendous display by all the players, my top man was Hobbs who looked a bit unlucky to get sent off and Morrison looked very assured when he came on, Brown looked a bit on the slow side early on against Kuffour but was solid against Lambert, everyone battled well and Fryatt worked well wide right in the second half, NP looked well up at the end of the game as did the players. Big down was the poor facilities at the ground, the Becks Stand was a big tent and the toilets were a joke. I look forward to a much better stadium on Saturday and a win.

another win, another 3 points and another 30 seconds on 'The Championship'

Bunn, playing only his second game for the club after joining on a month-long loan deal from Blackburn, said his spot-kick heroics from were down to doing pre-match research.

"Me and the goalkeeper coach (Mike Stowell) looked at some penalties before and he (Ricky Lambert) went to the right so I went to the right and I saved it.

"It's about time I saved one because that's the first penalty I've saved in about 10 I think."

:icon_eek:

It's the first positive comment I've ever read about Stowell. :icon_lol:

Mick Stowell can't be that bad. He's pretty much the only constant in the coaching set up for last 5 years. I'm sure if Nigel thought he was no good he'd of been long gone by now.

On a personal note about him he's a good laugh. During Rob Kelly's time here one of the coaches had a house in enderby and they used our local on nights out. David Rennie was a **** but the others were fine. They just used to rip McAndrew all night. A few of us actually went to the physio's asisstants stag night. they started off at our place and they asked us to join em in town with em. Got in everywhere without queing. Was a top night!

You really should think about the standard of goalkeeping in the last 5 years before posting such claptrap.

Is that Stowell's fault? He can only work with what is put in front of him. Has Henderson not improved over the last few years. Has Martin not improved over the last 6 months?

I admit i was never a big fan of either when they joined the club but imo i'm confident with both of these guys as our keeper now and don't see it as being a problem area. Pentney also seems to have improved loads since i saw him a couple of years back for the academy side.

(we'll just put Logan to one side :icon_bigg)

He has been goalkeeping coach at the club for about that long so I think he should shoulder a little of the blame

What do you think Mike Stowell's job is?

No coach is going to turn shit into gold though...

Personally I'm not a fan of Stowell, but think it's harsh to say our keepers have been shit because of him. I think we've had shit keepers, and no amount of coaching was going to make them much better.

I think the dictionary term of "coach" will show that it means to teach and improve someone. As my post asked, have Henderson and Martin not improved in their time with us? Dont beat around the bush melts. Answer me that in your opinion. If you dont believe so then fair enough but imo they have improved which means to me that Stowell is doing an ok job.

Wouldn't Nigel have got rid of him if he didn't think he was up to the job of "improving" the goalkeepers.

I take your point that he's been there for 5 or so years but can anyone really ever say we have had a problem with our goalkeepers. We got relegated because we didn't score enough goals. We had either the 1st or 2nd best defence last season. That to me shows that the goalkeeping department has not been the major problem.

I'm sure any organisation weather it be a football club or a diy store, will get rid of the people deemed not good enough to fulfil their job to the required standard. hence the reson mike stowell is still here. He is obviously doing a good enough job for what is required at this current time.

I still think we were spoiled with Keller and Flowers and to a certain extent Walker too. All good quality goalkeepers for the league we were in at the time. To me Martin and Henderson are more than capable in this league now.

Then what is the point of a coach?

Agreed, coaches can't shit into gold. But they should be able stop the shit being pissed away down the bog.

Of course Henderson hasn't improved, it doesn't take a genius to notice that.
