I was lucky enough to go to the Yorkshire Dales a couple of weeks ago. I think it's stunning around there.

I was in a place called Ingleton it was beautiful..not as good as here obviously but still stunning

Britain is a beautiful Country BG maybe you should go and see a bit of it:102:God knows our Tourist Industry could do with more people holidaying at home instead of lining other people's pockets

Whilst I was serving with the RN I nearly always took my holidays in the UK, I spent so much time on deployment thatat that time it was great to holiday at 'home', this continued really until the kids were old enough to consider flights and foriegn climes. Now I am a desk-jockey, I miss seeing other places and the kids love the excitment of flying and visiting other countries. All too often we found ourselves in a beautiful place, perhaps Cornwall, or Cumbria or Galloway or Oban or Norfolk and the weather spoilt it.

I also find the cost of accomodation in this country a complete joke, as do many foriegn visitors to the UK.

I bet you would have been treated like a God if you'd have visited this place.

Please tell me of all the tiny villages you could have came across, you managed to avoid that one.

I lived in Ambleside for nearly 5 years, and I really do know what you mean. I have stayed in hotels all over the UK, in nice scenic places as well as bland places. I find the staff in UK hotels rude and unhelpful, you don't normally find this abroad as they want you to return there and keep them in work.
Britain is full of idle sods!

Most of the staff in the Hotels up here are from Europe or Australia so that might be right

It was a generalistaion HF apologies for that, and I know there must be very reasonably priced nice places to stay that offer a good range of services. But my personal experience has too often been the opposite pokey rooms, poor service, high per night costs and little provision for children.

I have to say that I have spent work and lesiure time in Scotland and generally found Edinburgh and Glasgow expnesive and poor but places like Oban, Thurso, Troon, Lossimouth, etc all reasonable and very courteous.

No need to apologise:) My point was more that the Tourists from abroad up here might just be less fussy. The ones who moan the most up here about everything from the weather to the price of a cup of tea are the English and the further South they are from the more they moan

Funnily enough, I did see a place of that name, but as I said, I went to the Dales and not North Yorkshire :icon_wink

Sorry, I thought the Yorkshire Dales were in North Yorkshire.
