Can anyone explain this?

The biggest factor in the table is which teams you've played away.

We've already played away at the three teams with the lowest home attendances - Colchester, Scunthorpe and Blackpool, and we haven't played away at some of the clubs with high home attendances, such as Sheff Utd, WBA, and, of course, Leicester. So that has a big impact on our average. The table will have more meaning at the end of the season.

I don’t believe this table will ever have any meaning in my life, it’s a load of bollox.

Load of pants. If Forest and Derby were in with us we would be near the top.

Why?

The number of away fans at those matches is relatively small compared to the total number of fans at all our away matches, having derby games will have some impact, but not that much.

Have a look at the table again at the end of the season, once things have evened themselves out, and I'm sure we'll be mid-table.

I love the fact that so many people care, the world is a wonderful place really.

Which, unless I'm missing something, will mean precisely nothing.

An average of actual away fans would be someway meaningful

If Derby/Forest play a Colchester, Plymouth, Scunthorpe they would probaly get around the 20k mark. A city game against either should attract 25+. I didnt say we would be top, but i'm sure you get the picture. Norwich dont fair well because of the lack of rivals, yet they are one of the best home supported teams in the division.

There's nothing wrong with the table - it gives exactly the information that it purports to give. I do worry about the mental capacity of the people who try to interpret the numbers in some very odd ways though.

An extra 5,000 fans for one match would only add around 200 to the end of season average.

They don't fare well becaue, like us, they have already played the teams with the lowest home attendances, and haven't played some of the games against the teams with good home attendances.

I'm sure people will note I entitled the thread 'can anyone explain this' and not 'OMG we're fcuked!

Seriously I was looking for hard info to challenge our mendacious and statistically challenged green friend and this was all I found.
