Apparently, the club's Malaysian owners want to rebrand Cardiff - including changing their home colours to red rather than blue:

Cardiff City are considering a rebranding which could mean a change of colour and a significant cash injection, BBC Wales Sport understands.

This may involve the team playing in red instead of their traditional blue.

The club's Malaysian investors believe red is a more dynamic colour for marketing in Asia, as well as of more national significance in Wales.

No final decisions have been taken, but the owners are keen to put more money at manager Malky Mackay's disposal.

Mackay had to almost rebuild his squad from scratch when he took over last summer following the sacking of Dave Jones.

Despite the early-season disruption, Cardiff managed to reach the Carling Cup final and the Championship play-off semi-finals before losing to West Ham.

The Welsh club's main investor, Vincent Tan, is also understood to be keen to develop the club's training facilities.

While the shirts and club badge could change colour, Cardiff City sources categorically deny that the club - whose nickname is "the Bluebirds" - will become known as "the 'Red Dragons''.

So the owners are prepared to discard the club's history to make them more marketable in Asia. This could easily be Leicester City, our owners are keen to promote us to the Asian market. How would you feel if this was happening at City? Personally, I don't mind if they change the name of the stadium, or the sponsor for our kits, but to alter the very identity of the club for marketing purposes... that's sacrelige.

What do you think Rhydal?

They might actually get promoted if they did this though seeing as they can't help but fail wearing blue!

Jokes aside though, it would be madness to change the playing shirts, even stadium names is pushing it a bit in my opinion though not so bad when teams have moved to a new ground anyway. Might boost things in Asia but would go down worse than a lead balloon over here and I would expect serious protests to happen if they did try to push this through.

Mental in my opinion and as much as I have lost interest in City over the past few years, would not be happy one bit if something similar was suggested here!!

What I read there is......there's no more money going into the club and it's all the horrible supporters' fault cos they won't let us have our own little Manure team.

Bloody hell, it's a total mong fest on our website. Talk of £100m investment in return for the change of image.
I fully expect Sven to be installed before the end of the week.

He also spelled out the club's financial situation: "It is clear to all concerned that the club simply cannot continue to function and exist in its current state, effectively losing large amounts of money each month, while acquiring more and more debt.

"We have continued along this path until the end of the current season, but the club inevitably now faces bold and real world decisions should we want to see the club survive. As romantic and simplistic a notion as it may seem, maintaining our current course without growth or change, is not, and cannot be, an option".

The words 'the club' could easily be replaced with the single word 'football'.

These Malaysian guys continue to miss the obvious trick to boost this fine old club.

They should resign from the Football League; they would surely be welcomed by the Welsh Premier and would be odds on to get the European champions League spot on a regular basis. This would have a massive appeal to their world wide and particular Malaysia truly Asia following who would love the Sky/ITV exposure - much better than the odd televised Championship game v Peterborough or Barnsley.

They would get one dullard Champions League qualifier in July every year, followed by nothing but the truly shite Welsh League

Yes, that's much more marketable than playing West Ham, Wolves, Blackburn, QPR etc. that they may well be playing next season

Can't possibly imagine what's stopping them

I was only trying to be helpful to Rhydal and his friends. They must be suffering after their unlucky narrow defeat by West Ham in the play offs

Yes every scenario has its downfall - and playing league games that would be barely reported would be a drawback.
