Although in climbing up their own arses, they became one of the mainstream artists to actually push the boundaries and try new things, something which should applauded IMO and usually mainstream artists are just out to sell records and not to actually create something different and arty. That's another reason i like Radiohead, along with the Beatles they are one of the few mainstream artists to achieve this
I hear what you're saying but taking too much LSD doesn't necessarily mean that they managed to create anything worthwhile musically.
It is all subjective though, what sounds like a musical masterpeice to you may sound like a cat being aggressively raped by a chimpanzee to my ears, and vice versa.
