What's he achieved with Fulham? From where I'm standing it looks like, at the very best, he's been treading water with them, and every year not quite getting relegated- although he could manage it this season yet.

Give me Newell or Sanchez anytime over him.

His three full seasons have finished:

9th, 19 points clear
12th 14 clear
13th, 11 clear.

Treading water maybe, but hardly "not quite relegated". He could possibly do a decent job, but there are question marks over his tactical flexibility and, more worrying, keeping a united dressing room. Allegedly still too much "one of the lads", and unable / unwilling to clamp down on the party culture.

he would tell us to go feck ourselves after seeing us yesterday

I think Coleman is probably about the best we could hope for at the moment (apart from Keegan), I like his honesty in interviews but his win ratio is hardly that impressive:

G W L D Win %
174 61 69 44 35.05

but it is all in the premiership with a below average team

Fair point. It does look like he'd had very little money to play with, here's his last few transfers:

27/01/07 Alexei Smertin Dynamo Moscow Undisc.
24/01/07 Simon Davies Everton Undisc.
11/01/07 Clint Dempsey New England Revolution Undisc.
04/01/07 Vincenzo Montella Roma Loan
31/08/06 Jan Lastuvka Shakhtar Donetsk Loan
31/08/06 Wayne Routledge Tottenham Loan
27/07/06 Franck Queudrue Middlesbro Undisc.
12/07/06 Bjorn Runstrom Hammarby Undisc.
11/07/06 Gaby Zakuani Orient Undisc

I really do hope you are right, Coleman would be an excellent appointment, he is mustard, I think he has done very well at Fulham bearing in mind he has had to operate on a relatively small budget and he does seem to work pretty well in the transfer market. His win percentage is very good when you consider the circumstances.
