TCF - EDITORIAL - MAY 2006
City for sale ?City are according to new chairman Andrew Taylor, up for sale. If a man with a large moneybag comes in, he could be handed controll over the club. It's no secret that the club again is stressed financially. The club does have controll, but without increasing season ticket sales, more sponsors and a good start, it will be a struggle to float without selling some of the great youngsters. The future looks grim without money and a board without "large amounts of cash"

imagine that will be the case for every team such as ourselves who are aiming for promotion. with around 12 teams or so aiming at promotion each season and only 3 going up its going to be a big risk to spend money you dont have to get to the prem.

I think Boc will tell us soon enough about some limit on the amout of cash that can be invested under current arrangemetns?

I may tell you it - but it doesn't mean that I am in favour of it!

The way that I understand it 75% of the present shareholders would have to sanction such a deal. - no, present owners of 75% of the shares. There is a real concern that the club should not fall into the hands of one person.

Answering the actual question you asked, it's around £1/2million.

As Boc said it would take a high % of the shareholders to approve a change to this arrangement.

The Norfox article indicates that our new chairman has stated the existing owners would step aside if a guy who would splash the cash turned up. Several other significant shareholders have also said directly to us they would be wiling to do so. Wouldn't hold your breath of anybody actually doing it though.

Don't agree with the grim sentiments of the article though, our playing budget will still be greater than over half of the division & it wasn't all the large budget clubs that made the play offs this season or previously.

Could it have been a throw away comment anyway? He made some similar comment in the Fans Consultative Committee meeting along those lines, but given the context and the way it was said, I don't think anyone there would have taken it seriously.

Judging by the number of bedrooms BG has, maybe he can throw a bit of loose change the clubs way :icon_wink

Yes - that's really great to hear that Leicester City Football Club are basically around average financial strength in the second tier of English football.

I am immensely cheered by that news together with the fact that the club has such intelligent rules that more or less preclude any individual investment significant enough to move the club forward.

I am sure that the FT is right in thinking that we would all prefer the present set up rather than the opportunity for any overly ambitious individual to selfishly pursue any pot hunting or that sort of stuff.

I think its much better for the FT and the rest to have a strong voice in the boardroom than the club to win football matches.
