Graham Souness, not a pundit I like, no doubt stems from the fact I ddn't like him as a player or manager for that matter. However he gave a very good assessment on Sky this morning, saying, he thought Puel was a good appointment and that he should not be assessed on his time at Southampton. He highlighted the Saints selling policy which basically left Puel with no strikers and there was no attempt by the club to replace them leaving the manager with one option a solid defence, with odd goal deciding matters in their favour, a stratergy which worked well, but went down like a lead balloon with the fans. So thanks Mr Souness, never said that before.

I am really excited by this appointment. The team of Puel and Appleton combines the foreign experience of Puel with the knowledge of the English game of Appleton. This is going to be a very interesting and hopefully exciting ride. Fasten your seatbelts.

He's giving us a pee. That's nice.

Now get him to say that 'I want happiness' *snigger*

The Totally Football show podcast being very pragmatic and reasonable about the appointment, unlike some of the more hysterical responses.

I’m already feeling very protective about our new manager! and the more I hear and read, the more I think it’s a justifiable appointment if not one we’d chosen ten days ago.

I love it when we have a manager people don't like or have written off before he's started.

Hopefully builds a siege mentality as that's when our club thrives.

Return of the underdog

I've found this quite interesting actually. The human instinct to support and protect their own. He's ours now so we don't like him being criticised by others etc.

I do wonder how this has gone down at the training ground with players and staff. Whatever the equivalent to our team 'WhatsApp' page must have been busy with all sorts of comments. Our players will have contacted friends at Southampton for their thoughts and he was clearly not a popular man there.

The truth is that before his appointment became likely, I'd read absolutely nobody that wanted him. It is undoubtedly a bewildering and strange appointment. Our owners and Rudkin have excelled themselves in wrong footing us once again.

I will be 'normal' and wish him well and support his side over the coming weeks. I would also love to be shown that he is indeed something more than the evidence suggests. Privately though, we all know that it's probably going to end in tears don't we?

I got it wrong about Taylor, Sven, Sousa and Ranieri. So on that basis, I haven't got a clue how Puel will do.
