I would say 1.5 million or 2 million is a good sum of money. And yes I think 3 million is too much.

£1m for a player from a struggling 3rd division team is an awful lot of money. Who is to say that he has what it takes to score goals in the Championship?

I do like what I've seen of Cox, but with the likes of Lita available for nothing, much of the fee should be clauses based on excellent performance of player and team.

Any more than that is daft. We really shouldn't be trying to compete with clubs with far greater resources than us. We have to walk before we can run.

In my opinion, only a club with money to burn should pay the prices you're quoting for him.

We paid a lot more than a bag of washers to get Fryatt from Walsall.

Was he worth the financial gamble?

Apart from the few goals he scored straight after we signed him it was only really an imvestmemt that came good 3 years late.

a: 1 1/2 years lateR
b: why does that even matter?
c: iirc correctly his goals in his first half season were very helpful in keeping us up

How boring, for goodness sake can't we just splash the cash and sign him for a reasonable price or could the board at least let us know what is happening. Getting bored of the whole Cox transfer saga now!

It's only been going on a week, what would you do if you were a Man U fan with their 3 year on-off transfer sagas :icon_bigg

And you probably don't remember that MON used to faff around for around 6 months before signing anyone!

Should have MM gone public on our interest??

Did Milan go public on our interest? Usually it is the selling club or the players agent who leaks to the press.
One often ignored factor in a transfer is the wife/girlfriend. Would Mrs Cox want him to go to Celtic and live in a country where noone speaks English.

Could be very relevant that one, someone I know in the Swindon area indicates, not keen to relocate at all, hence clubs even closer than City would be more attractive.

Looks like Cox is on his way as Swindon expect to sign Watford striker for £100,000 today

I think it's nailed on he's on his way, so Swindon are purely spending cash they know they'l get back within the next few weeks.

does anyone know if he wants to come here or would he prefer a move up to Celtic?
personally, i'd love to see him play for us next season.

I very much doubt anyone on here knows him well enough to be able to answer that question.

Celtic IMO looks like a dead deal now Strachan has gone. I can't see them being able to pay Mowbrays compensation as well as Cox's alledged £2m + asking fee.

West Brom IMO also looks like a dead deal with the imminent departure of Mowbray.

As far as I am aware, we're the only other club that has been 'heavily' linked with him, so we shall just have to wait and see.

But if West Brom were interested and Mowbray could move to Celtic, then I see no reason why he could not still move to Parkhead.

Celtic have always appeared to me a club that very rarely spends any money.

It might be that because I don't have a great interest in Scottish football and know all the ins and out that they do in fact splash the cash?

They alledgedly pulled out of approaching Swansea for Martinez because they felt the £2m compensation was too much, and so far they have been very reluctant to pay WBA a similar amount.

My theory is that they can only do one or the other. If Mowbray moves to Celtic they won't be able to afford to buy Cox, if Mowbray doesn't move to Celtic whoever they get will have other ideas. The latter theory would then obviosuly open the door for Cox to move to WBA.

Celtic aren't going to sign anyone without a manager... maybe that's what Swindon are waiting for

if i were a Celtic fan, i wouldn't be overjoyed at spending £2m on a third div striker
