The reason a teacher couldn't return is purely on the grounds of child safety. How does that apply to a boxer or footballer?

Footballers are often involved with community work in schools and junior teams as part of their 'commitment' to the club. it may even be a part of their contract.

I disagree with the first bit. Certain professions prohibit criminals from being employed, I couldn't rerun as a teacher for instance. I would add professional sportsperson to that list. It still sickens me that Mayweather and Tyson are still banded about as heroes and given millions despite their past.

My comment was in relation to the law as it stands, not what some people may think should be the case

Exactly plus the public image of the sport is important. Some wanted Pearson sacked for comments towards reporters yet don't want Simpson sacked for a genuine criminal offence?

There's another thread on this forum about a city player who's just been called up to represent his country. Amongst the praise, if you follow one of the links you'll see that he has an assault conviction and had to skip evening games due to his tag.

There's a difference between banning him from playing (which is a ludicrous idea) and deciding that he simply isn't the type of person you would want at your club

I would be more than happy if we fecked him off altogether, mainly because I personally find him offensive. Plus he is actually complete shite.

It's an ideal excuse to let someone leave who isn't up to the required level for the league we are in.

Football is a ruthless game at times but if it frees up wages for a better replacement then the option is surely there.

Bang on

He gets sacked and how has this changed him as a person?

The club signed a person with anger management problems, I can't help but feel they are duty bound to help him overcome them as a result. But then I'm just an idealistic fool who believes employers have a duty to their employees beyond simply paying them.

I also believe that employers have a duty and it does not make you an idealistic fool. It is important however not to concentrate on the predator rather than the prey - Simpson rather than the woman and her daughter. The initiative should not come from the employer. The admirable Jimmy Greaves who is an alcoholic was asked if he had offered to help Paul Gascoigne. He answered "No because the initiative has to come from Paul himself or it just does not work." A powerful factor in the Marlon King situation has always been that the PFA offers help with anger management but King has shown no interest.

There is one person in this who is being ignored which is Danny Simpson's daughter - he should have been Simpson's first priority and yet she seems not to have thought of her when strangling the mother of his child.

Football clubs are part of the community and have a duty to supporters.I do not want to see a child walking up Filbert Way wearing a Danny Simpson shirt? Would a mum be able to explain to a young child why she refused to cheer Danny Simpson or why opposition fans are chanting "He only hits women".
