Unlikely to come to us now as the bookies are not taking any more money on him signing for Palace. He must have told someone of his intention and they've put a big bet on it.
 
According to the Daily Mail, Defoe has agreed a deal with Sunderland.

More shocking that it's being reported as a three and a half year contract. For a 32 year old.
 
It will more than likely end up being crazy, but if his performances and goals keep them up, is it money well spent?

Oh, definitely. If we could spend £20m now for guaranteed survival it would be a no brainer.

But I'm not sure Defoe is the answer. 12 goals in 48 league appearances in his last 2 seasons, and when playing for a much more creative Spurs team (when compared to anyone in the bottom half of the table). Add to that he's another year older, and I just don't think he's the player he was five years ago.

There's a reason why no one splashed the cash to keep him in the PL in the summer.

The most goals he's scored in the league is 18 and that was 09-10 season, arguably his peak.

Since then, he's scored 4 in 22, 11 in 25, 11 In 34, 1 in 14 (All In The PL) and then 11 in 16 in the MLS. I'm not doubting that he's had a decent scoring ability but considering his last full season in the PL he had a return of 11 in 34, I reckon Ulloa will get more this season.

Ok fine, perhaps not everyone!
Even so, it's surprising how many fans of teams such as Spurs and Liverpool would like to see him play for their clubs. After reading the comments on some of the articles published about Defoe, it seems plenty want him in.

I just don't see the value in spending so much on someone who's pace is his one of his main attributes considering he's 32 and his goal scoring record is about 1 in 4 over his career.
