a) Because there are no other Championship clubs that would leave a fit £5 million plus player out of the match day squad completely
Or
b) Because the media circuit is hearing vibes of a big bust up & they all want to be first to get official confirmation

That figure is absolute fantasy. As I said in another thread, we won't have paid anything approaching that up front. There will be all kinds of clauses and add-ons before Reading get anywhere near the full £5million, if that quoted figure is even correct.

IIRC, the fee was undisclosed for this transfer, so isn't this just another case of the media pulling a figure out of the sky and everyone taking it as gospel?

The side is looking more solid and together than for a long time ... errr since the run in two seasons ago.

Morgan looks good already and has the potential to grow into half the player Matt Elliott was.

For all of the Sheep's possession in the second half, they never really looked like hurting us. I think there was one cross from their left that went fizzing across our box but behind their man, otherwise it could have been similar to the Danns goal for us.

We had better chances through Nugent (twice), Beckford and ofcourse Dyer and looked far more dangerous when we did have the chance to get forward.

A very competent performance.

Dyer should have been the outlet so much more, we used him sparingly for saying he was ripping the fullback to pieces.

First half good...second half...not so good.

Danns given so much space it was almost like Derby forgot he was playing. Dyer, to his credit was excellent.

We've been a bit soft recently on putting our foot on teams throats. We should have buried Watford and this game should have been over by half time.

You're right. The full-back was scared stiff of him after that burst of speed that led to the goal. It's a mystery why he then seemed to drift inside and failed to offer a repeat of the dose.

I think he was hunting for the ball, we seemed (for some crazy reason) to never want to give him the ball, everything was focused down the right, where we were less of a threat it seemed.

The One Show

I saw a clip of that once, on youtube, and my IQ instantly dropped by several points.
Is it called The One Show because that's the maximum amount of braincells required to watch it?

Sadly Idiocracy was not only a comedy but prophetic.

woot !!!

Agree with the positives about Morgan, St.Ledger and Dyer. We defended against a poor team who were bereft of confidence very well.

I'm not convinced that Peltier and Marshall down the right side are strong enough. They weren't exposed last night but a better side will exploit them. Wellens was good again and appears to have rediscovered some form. Danns compliments him well but a place must be found for Drinkwater in there somewhere. Apart from a couple of good things, I thought Beckford was dire. Nugent was anonymous first half, much better second.

Mills' absence was telling. If NP's body language on the side lines over the months he's been back is anything to go by, I don't think Mills, Bamba and Beckford will be at the club next season.

What an interesting post. I take it that you watched it live. Watching it on TV I found it difficult to tell about Peltier and Marshall. Of course, Peltier is in his first season at this level and I would guess was expected to understudy Pantsil. Credit to him for making the right back position his own. Marshall is very young and very inexperienced.

I agree that a place needs to be found for Drinkwater. We know that Wellens cannot train fully and I would guess this will become more and not less of a problem. It may be that Wellens is best used from the bench.

Did I miss something? Long term injury? Lazygititis?

In December there was a story in the Mercury headlined "Leicester City's Richie Wellens forced to ease off in training". It was clear that this was not some temporary injury as it included the sentence "The 31-year-old, who captained City on Saturday against Peterborough United, said he was coming to the stage of his career where he is unable to go flat-out on the training ground."
