With DeVries suspended (albeit for one game) we look extremely short in the goalscoring department. Whilst I have faith in both Hammond and Hume, we would be in trouble if either were injured!!!

I personally think we also lack a bit of firepower. Games like today just needed that something a little bit special and we could have gone home with all three points.

I don't know who...but personally I think we need someone.

Over to you. What do you think?:102:

Yes.

De Vries, while going well at the moment, is still only at best a 15-goal a season striker. Good in itself but we need someone beside him who can score 20.

Hammond has yet to convince me that he's anything but a good sub player, maybe after he's had a season playing first team football he'll have gotten the pace of it and start scoring more next season, but that doesn't bode well for this season.

Hume, likewise, needs to have a run of games up front in the Championship to get into the swing of things. He looks like a good player to me but I don't know if he'll ever score us that extra 20 goals needed, definitely not this season.

I'd say we've got a group of very inexperienced Championship strikers, who may make the grade next season but probably wont come into any real form this season. Like most of our squad really, although some of them have been here longer which is why we're seeing a bit of an improvement.

I can't really see the solution to this one for this season though, as any other player we bring in is either likely to be just as inexperienced or too old to fit in with Levein's team-building policy.

Hume was pretty poor today, we need to do better if we intend to score goals. Mdv is having something of a run of form, but was marked out of the game today. Elvis, whilst lacking skill, forced preston to attack with caution because of his pace, and Dublin was possiably the best of the 4 Strikers that played today - and he wasnt great.

Yes, we need somebody capable of challenging MDV, whilst he has done very well this season, he needs some competition and we also need to be able to rest him, or change things around. It all depends on finances, but I would like it to be another younger player if we were to bring somebody in. Personally I dont think Dion is the answer, he is useful as a sub to throw on with 20 minutes to go, but with the way we are trying to play he doesnt seem to quite fit in to that style. It might be possible that we sign a player on loan with a view to a permanent deal. Too be fair to CL he did well tying up the Hume and Hammond deals on deadline day, but I would not be surprised to see another striker come in.

Yes, we need a proven goalscorer who defenders will be afraid of, someone who you look at the team sheet and think 'oh we will need to watch him very closely'. At the moment we do not have one of them, de vries misses many chances, elvis has pace but little else, dublin is too slow, and hume seems unable to finish. I look at Dublin as a centre back, so that is 3 strikers, only one of which is scoring, and he is 30.

You only have to look forward 1 week to see why we need more fire power. De Vries suspension exploits how weak we are up front.

But having said this I do think that Hume will get there. He has all the attributes and really reminds me of a certain Paul Dickov in terms of his tenacity and work ethic. Work on his finishing and he could well be a feared striker.

That does not solve our problems now however!

On the finance front I am sure I read an article not too long ago in which Tim Davies promised Levein some finance for signings...not sure how much but I think there is some available!:icon_bigg

I think we will create problems for ourselves when you have to use makeshift strikers. Another natural striker at the club would make healthy competition for places.

too true. at the moment it is elvis and hume battling for a place up front with de vries. If one of them is injured/suspended/cup tied, then the other two are instantly in the first XI, unless CL wants to put dublin up front, we need another striker

Whether or not we need one I can only see us getting one if we are in striking distance of the play offs come January time and we are able to off load somebody as well.We could get one of West Brom's they seem to have plenty..

Seems to be injured a lot. :frown:

no not at the minute. A young lad as cover would help, but we dont need to buy another Hume. He looks a very exciting player and I for one believe he will score a few in good time. He is establishing himself at a level above what he has been used to playing and this change over period takes more time for some players than it does for others.

He was Tranmeres youngest ever player to play a first team game!!

So Tranmere must have trusted him and liked what they saw, there fans loved him and like you have said in time he will score goals its just a matter of time, and i really hope its sooner rather than later!

Just think if Chambo and Hume ver play together it will be LCFCs youngest ever player playing with Tranmeres youngest ever player!! Lethal
