Re: Ex-players (the thread nobody's been waiting for)

From the BBC site today:

Ipswich boss Roy Keane may sell defender Gareth McAuley, 29, to raise funds after the pair had a bust-up last week.
Full story: Daily Mirror

What a joke - he's about the only decent defender they've got!

Re: Ex-players (the thread nobody's been waiting for)

Are you kidding? Mcauley is and always has been terrible!

Best deal we ever made flogging that useless shite for £1.5!

No he wasn't. Even in our relegation season we had one of the best defensive records in the league, due in no small part to Macauley and Kisnorbo.

And yes, he is one of Ipswich's best defenders. He was dropped on Saturday and they looked even worse than they have done recently - that's no mean feat.

"Joe Mattock on the other flank is also struggling to find his feet, his distribution has been disappointing and on Tuesday he was run ragged by Craig Mackail-Smith."

Mattock 5 – No defensive errors but poor passing.

Re: Ex-players (the thread nobody's been waiting for)

oh there's more

"seriously hope cech starts at left back from now on and we start with thomas on the wing because mattock is just awful imo... yes he is young and in the future he will be an exciting player but atm he just isn't good enough"

Ah such optimism - " in the future he will be a better player ". Clutching at straws I'd say.

Indeed - he's gone backwards in the last two years and really has to have a change of attitude if he wants to be a success.

To be fair if he was expected to be as good as Rooney we got well and truely ripped off.

Are you suggesting there is any comparison between Mattock and Rooney?

Julian Joachim has signed for Quorn

FORMER Leicester City and Aston Villa striker Julian Joachim is the man Quorn hope will kick start their Unibond Division One South season after a poor opening.

The 34-year-old former Premiership player who has had around £4 million spent on him during his career has been signed by manager Dougie Keast and made his debut in the Reds’ 2-0 home defeat to Willenhall on Tuesday night.

And it’s hoped the England U21 international will be the one who sparks Quorn’s season into life after a disappointing start has left them bottom but one after four games.

He joins former Leicester City defender Phil Gilchrist in the squad.

“I got to know Julian through playing various charity matches,” explains Keast. “He’s become a friend and I asked him to help us out.

“While it’s a big signing for the club, Julian’s very modest and just wants to quietly get on with doing his best here.”

Joachim burst on to the scene as a teenage protégé at Leicester and as part of the England U18 side that won the European Championships in 1993 before winning nine England Under 21 caps netting once.

He moved to Aston Villa for £1.5 million in 1996 and over the course of five years starred in 141 games and scored 39 times for Villa in the Premier League including an appearance in the 2000 FA Cup Final, but injuries began to hamper his game.

He dropped a level to Coventry for £2 million in 2001 before spells at Leeds United, Walsall, Boston, Darlington and Kings Lynn.

“He’s very keen to play and we’re looking forward to having him at the club,” chairman Stuart Turner said.

Quorn travel to Borrowash Victoria in the FA Cup tomorrow (Saturday) before Keast is scheduled to return to his former club Stamford on Bank Holiday Monday.

The club will also host the touring Italian U17 team this week at the Farley Way Stadium.
