Players from the Premiership may not be available at the moment, but could become available if their club signs new players.

There's no point signing players now just for the sake of it, if someone better could be available if we're prepared to wait a few weeks.

Could be true, but we still have two months before the season starts.

It's very unusual to have this much transfer activity at this stage of the season, most transfers happen later, so I'm not too concerned about the lack of midfielders at the moment.

Normally I would agree but we only have about 5 players at the Club who MA wants to use next season.

I think it is more to do with as Jeff suggested, waiting to see who becomes available.
We do not know (and never will unless they sign) who MA has enquired about and clubs may not give any answers until they have sorted their plans.

the 4 that we have signed have all been out of contract haven't they? so we don't need to approach their clubs therefore it should not be a long drawn out process.
we don't know how many players we have asked clubs for permission to talk to and even then a transfer may not materialise for various reasons.
