Gifton, the fourth of Burnley's signings in the 2005 closed season, was this summer made available for transfer 12 months into a two-year deal. The rangy, six-foot striker arrived with high hopes from Stoke City after enjoying a successful end to the 2004/05 season at the Britannia Stadium, where he scored nine goals in the last 16 games of the season. A debut goal for the Clarets followed in the opening day defeat to Crewe, but Gifton soon found himself a victim of a system change and was relegated to the substitutes bench for long spells.
He eventually saw out the season on loan at Brighton and Hove Albion and was unfortunately unable to avoid their relegation from the Championship, despite scoring twice in seven appearances. Gifton began his career near his native London with Watford, where he burst onto the scene as a 16-year-old under the management of Graham Taylor. After seven years and just less than 200 appearances and 41 goals for the club, he moved on in the summer of 2003 and signed for Stoke. Over his two seasons at the Britannia Stadium, he was a regular in the team and made 91 appearances, scoring 23 goals.
Lboro fox said:Is he that bad as a back-up? He is a targetman which is something we do not have at the minute, you never know he could be the next Marlon King.

PFKAKTF FOX said:FFS here we go again, criticising a potential signing before he has even signed for us let alone kicked a ball in anger, truth is whoever comes in, is going to be back up to Hume and Fryatt, and have any of us seen enough of this guy play to make such informed judgements on his abilities or lack of.
Lets give RK and his signings the chance to prove themselves before we start passing judgement, he may just add something to the squad that we have been lacking.
A few of Watford's signings were frowned upon and look how well they did. It isnt about individuals but about building a team and squad that buy into the managers ethic and ideas.
Real Sharapova said:Not for me, mainly because we need strengthening in other areas. BTW we have Dodds and MDV as back-up anyway.

dodds has not had a chance to prove himself yet so can hardly be classed as back upReal Sharapova said:Not for me, mainly because we need strengthening in other areas. BTW we have Dodds and MDV as back-up anyway.
