Gilbert looked poor when I saw him. But his form may not necessarily be why he's going, maybe he has a bad attitude or is disruptive. Or maybe the money will be used to get someone better.

What a waste of time for the Club and the player. MA type transfer dealing. This does nothing to make believe any more in CL. :icon_roll :frown: ;) :icon_evil :icon_evil
I would imagine we would get some sort of fee for him. Anyway, not every transfer turns out fine, but I must admit he's never impressed when I've seen him. You could say it's good management in a way, recognising a mistake and trying to move on ( all right, I know I always try to look on the bright side ).

From what I saw of him, I agree! He was indeed poor. However, that doesn't let anyone off the hook by moving him along! He still cost a considerable amount of money (at least for this club).

Whether he's impressed or not he deserves a regular run to prove himself. Look at Paddy, he was erattic last season this season he's come on leaps and bounds. It just seems such a stoopid move when our left back position is one we are already playing out of position players in

So we should keep him then ? Don't play him,pay him and let him serve as an Example to Levein that he made a mistake in the transfer market...

But if CL does want to bring in new faces he's got to try and free some money up.He's got shut of Wilcox and Gilbert today,Ok only on loan but its a start. You want new faces I thought you'd be pleased.

I do want new faces, and if we get back the money that we paid on them then great. I have no problem with Wilcox going. I would just liked to have seen Gilbert given more chace than he's had. CL seems to be very quick to take a dislike to people based on things other than their performance. IMO Sylla is playing worse that Gilbert, why not get rid of him aswell? The only thing I can think of must be his attitude behind the scenes like Webbo said.

If we keep advocating giving CL more time, even though he's doing shite at the moment then surely players should at least be given a chance on the pitch before they go aswell? Is this not the equivalant to having sacked CL after 4 games(or however many Gilbert has played)?

No. One player is not as integral to the overall setup as the manager, nor has Gilbert been sacked.

So long as we can get the money we spent on him back I'm not bothered. It soon became clear that he was seen as 'one for the future' rather than being close to the first team, since we can say the same of Alan Sheehan it's silly having both. I think it's time to try Kisnorbo at LB myself.

Nope, but researching the players you sign is a good start. But then at the moment I am not convinced in Leveins quality in assessing players.

He replaced Walker with Rab without even entering into any kind of negotiations with Walker, who made it clear that he wanted to stay on reduced terms. Rab can not hold a candle to the player we had.

He replace Gillespie with Momo - need I say anything else. Again, no attempt to negotiate new terms. The man played plenty of international games over the summer without a club, so the ball was really in our court to at least make some effort to offer terms. No other clubs were interested at the time and I am sure he would have agreed to stay. He was also ten times the player that Momo was. Not to mention that he was just beginning to really come strong on the right with Maybury.

He brings in Kis nobbo, and lets Stephen Dawson go who was again 10 times the player.

Gilbert - as above.

New deal for Wilcox

350,000 for Elvis, who was initially going to be assessed until Christmas, and then it was going to be decided as to whether to sign him. Not worth that money in anyones book.

750,000 for Hume, who never gets to start a match.

New contract for Dublin, who could audition for the part of the snail in the magic roundabout.

Playing Nissa/Maybury/Stearman at left back consistantly when they all struggle in that position...then publically slagging off Nissa for 'letting him down'.

The only thing I can't comment on is the Williams Debacle, because I really don't know what went on.

All I do know is that things were coming together well at the end of last season, and instead of building on the foundations of the good players we had, we have added several different shades of shite.

I am annoyed, and I think everyone else who wants to be has a right.

No one gets every transfer right, remember Martin O'Neil bought Graham Fenton and Phil Gilchrist! Personally, I think you're going over the top here about us selling someone who has never been, justifiably or not, the first choice in his position at this club.

I'm not annoyed about that. If he isn't good enough that is fine. It was simply the money paid that bothers me. We don't have massive amounts to throw around, which is why when we do decide to spend it should be on quality. £250,000 for gilbert was too much.

£250,000 doesn't buy you quality these days, it buys you a gamble, let's see how much we make from Wednesday before getting all het up about it..

Can't make my mind up about this one.

On the one hand if CL thinks he has bought a muppet / bad influence or this is one of the few ways he can free up funds then this can be seen as good / strong management.

On the other you have to ask yourself the question why did CL spend what is a lot of money for us on someone who he then gets rid of in such a short period of time.

Thank goodness we only paid £200,000 then - although you'll probably say that was too much as well.

It should be remembered that Gilbert played almost every game in the previous two seasons for Plymouth. OK, one of them was a division down but the team were flying high that season.

The Plymouth fans that I spoke to last month are amazed that he has not made it into our team - he was very popular there and you don't get popular without putting in a few good performances.

"He is young, I feel he has a lot of potential which can be realised and he'll be good for us."

Craig Levein, 25th July 2005.

He made a mistake SF which he is now trying to rectify by sending him To Sheff Wed...

This has really really p!ssed me off!

1) Its far too much money to be wasted.
2) CL said that he had tracked the player all over the summer before finally getting him! nice scouting Criag.
3) We let go Jordon (who i know wasn't ever-ones favorite player) but was a left back good enough for this division. His corners were rubbish, but he probably wouldn't have been taking them this season. I was annoyed about it at the time, now i find the whole left back thing unbelievable.
4) He has been given a fair chance in the team.
