Serious question.

I know that our pitch always looks amazing but I have seen a couple of suggestions that Hull deliberately had their grass long and dry so we could not play 'one-touch' football.

Would longer dry grass make a significant difference?

It cannot be understated just how bad our defending was throughout yesterday, to the point where it pissed me off and if I'd been watching that standard of defending from the likes of Forest, Cov or Derby I'd have been laughing at how shit they were. Added to that we again wasted some good chances. If Claudio thinks we deserved a draw from that then he is feckin' deluded.

As a matter of urgency we need to rediscover our defensive solidarity. Vardy should be dropped for now. His air shot just summed up what is wrong with a few players at the minute - complacency, a lack of focus and concentration thinking we can afford to take our foot off the pedal this year. I'm not a great fan of Okazaki but we were improved up front when he came on yesterday. We generally struggled to cut through Hull's defence in numbers and as mentioned, compounded matters at the other end by being ****ing abysmal at our own back end.

The middle of the pitch was like a meadow. We didn't do anything to address that obstacle though.

Random thoughts:

Commiserations to those who were at the match and had to travel back after. I watched it at the pub and then went for a scone. The scone was better than the match.

We will not just miss Kante. I think we will miss Steve Walsh Sr. Claudio is right to be on the touchline dealing with the game moment to moment. However, he needs the advice of someone watching from high up and seeing the general pattern. He needs that not just during the match but when thinking about the match afterwards.

What is wrong with our central defenders? Is it just that they are not used to playing together? Is age catching up with Wes? Is Luis up to the job? Which ever I wish we had got Michael Keane in.

Jamie made himself look foolish early on with a total miskick. Did he become self conscious tense up and start thinking? Last year he just reacted.

I was concerned when Mahrez went to take the penalty. Last year he missed too many and Vardy got the job. He scored but I have a feeling that if the keeper had stayed in the middle he might have saved it.

Musa showed signs of quality. I think he will do well.

We are very short of midfielders.

I don't know about the performance as I was at a wedding, but the result is embarrassing, there can't be any reasonable excuse for losing to Hull in their current state.

Hopefully a wake up call to the team, and it will be interesting to see how they respond in the next game.

Arsenal will be a difficult game, but I expect to see a team determined to bounce back.

The defence is concerning but let's not forget that Morgan had to concentrate on his partner more than normal which ended up taking it's toll on his own performance.

Clearly he prefers to play on the right side of the pair, moving him unsettles not only both central players but both wing backs who are dealing with different players to normal.

The above doesn't excuse all the missed headers though. He was beaten time and time again in the air and it directly led to one goal and should have led to another.

Drinkwater had no outlet and looked increasingly frustrated with the fact that nobody wanted to actually move to take the ball off him. He had to resort to punts up field whoch they gobbled up every time. Okazaki would have been coming short and dragging at least one defender with him in these scenarios which naturally opens up a bit more space in behind.

King being closer to the starting line-up than ever before suggests our activity in the market has been poor. He is not a starter and doesn't have any specialist traits that make him stand out.

Gray cannot start against the Arse, Albrighton needs to be back in and worked to death up and down that left hand side and replaced when needed.

Vardy needs to sharpen up, nothing more at this stage.

Kasper needs a massive kick up the arse, poor at every single cross and his abysmal distribution constantly out us under pressure, it eventually cost us the game.

Just watched the first half. Don't think we were that bad. We had numerous opportunities to get the first goal. Riyad and Jamie were not quite at full tilt but it will come. I think we missed Albrighton and Okazaki more that anyone. Musa looks good. No need to worry too much. When we lose to Arsenal the panic and booing will really set in.

No reason why it should as we lost to them twice last year, so they are hardly a team we beat easily!

You would have tonked us on short grass.
and yes your penalty was clearly a good decision by the ref

By my calculation Hull FC's last Super League fixture is 23rd September or a week later if they make the playoffs, after which the grass will be cut to footy length I presume.

Certainly worth a sly punt on them to get results against Man U, Arsenal and Chelsea, if not topping the league itself. It's like Samson and Delilah, but with grass

Hull FC at Wembley soon.It would have been reasonable to build it in East Yorkshire the way we are monopolising it.
I blame Boris!

Hull away on the first day of the season was probably the last fixture I'd have wanted. Fine, on paper Hull seemed crushable. But let's face it - they were always going to rally together and want it more - like us in the great escape. Who would've wanted to play us after we'd beaten West Ham and then West Brom? Hull had nothing to lose - I think going forward they're going to struggle, but for the first game or two, they were always going to be tough to beat. If we were playing them game three or four I believe we would've won.

Phelan has to stay as manager imo. Cafe good luck - I hope you stay up! Love another underdog tale.

Thanks Thai
Takeover anytime soon so hopefully 8 new players in.They are worth a few billion so new players should be decent.I think Phelan would be a reasonable choice.
