Look, it must be several years since I started a thread on here, but, hey, when you got summat to say, you got summat to say.

And what I'd like to say is that this board is totally unfair to Ian Hume.

Right, he's not perfect. Right his ego is as big as the Ramada. Right, at times he's over-indulged by the BMs. Whatever.

But actually, right now, he's saving our club from the drop.

I was here in the Muzzy era, and before that in the Walshie era, and before that in the JULIAN years, and none of them got this filth from the board that Hume gets. What's up with you guys?

Hume cares. And, he's a goal scorer. And I'm truly fed up with arguing with guys I like and admire and respect, like Macky and others, but, you know what? You're wrong about Hume.

His heart is as great as Muzzy's. His skill isn't as brilliant. His persistence is as great as Walshie's. His aggression isn't as focussed. His eye for goal is as great as Julian's, although he lacks the finesse.

But can you lot please drop the attitude, and see what this bloke is doing for us?

Just because the BMs love him doesn't mean he's excrement.

In fact, he's saving us. He cares. He's our best goal-scorer. His heart is as great as any of the former stars of our club.

So why do some of you delight in putting him down? Continually?

Maybe it's because you haven't got a clue.

That's my opinion. And I wrote a best-selling book about football, so I know summat about it.

End of.

Re: Hume

agreed, I never understood the criticism he picks up.. something along the lines of 'running around like a headless chicken and getting nothing done'. The man is here there and everywhere, you can always bet he will work his bollocks off for you. He is about the only player in the squad that offers any sort of consistancy infront of goal. He needs to be played upfront - not out on the pissing wing because we don't have any other players good enough to fill that position...

Re: Hume

I don't think anybody has :102:

I've been his biggest critic from day one, and even I've given him credit when it's due. As I've said many a time this season, he should be up front, and he should be the first on the team sheet.

However, if he scored an acceptable percentage of his shots, instead of hitting the next village, we'd be much further up the league by now. Maybe the break has done him some good.

Re: Hume

He does care and I think that he got his share of the frustration from the fans when the team were misfiring. He never hid even when he or the team were underperforming.

Whatever the rights and wrongs of it there aren't words for how relieved I was when he scored last week and how delighted for him and the club I am that he got the winner today.

Re: Hume

Great post OP. The past 2 goals he has scored could, and most likely will, prove to be priceless for us not just this season, but maintaining our prestigious history of never playing outside the top two divisions! Huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuume!

I agree with what Melton is saying too but if he was banging in a load more then I doubt he would still be with us. If he was a 20-goal a season player then he would be looking to play in the Premiership and Premiership teams would be interested in him. Hopefully he will turn into this type of player and hopefully it will be with us that he does it!

Re: Hume

I don't think many people have criticised Hume unfairly. What people have criticised is the way some of our fans worship him when he's done nothing more than run around for a bit.

I agree with that, and i think that Hume shows more passion than most of our squad, and thats so important in our situation.

Whats your book called, Innocent?

Jeff, you just encapsulated this board's opinion - 'when he's done nothing more than run around for a bit'.

Grow up.

He's SCORED.

DJ Campbell what's he all about? No positional sense, no defending ability, no true fast twitch muscle - in that he's OK when he starts running, but he hasn't got an immediate reflex to run, and even when he runs, he runs into the wrong positions. Matty Fryatt is better than he is, if slower, but he's superior on footballing brain.

Hume is our very best and most reliable player, with Kisnorbo, and maybe some of our kids.

It's become 'fashionable' to diss Hume.

Oh ffs!

Gary Lineker? What was his percentage?

At least we played him up front.

Melts, credit where credit's due, OK?

Hume has saved us, so far.

Re: Hume

I didn't say he's not one of our better players, he is. But it shows how far we've fallen when a player of his limited ability is worshipped the way he is. He may have scored today, but any of our players would have scored from the chance he had, so don't give of any of this 'he's keeping up up by himself' bollocks.

I think you can swing too far the other way as well mind, i.e. bumming him. If we stick him out there on his own he isn't going to be getting us three points is he? My favourite player in the current squad (which probably isn't saying much at the moment!) but there is no 'I' in team...

One bloke's tap-in doesn't deserve special praise....when you have a bloke at the back who was simply outstanding and showed some real desire with possibly the individiual performance of the season :icon_roll

We'd also of been safe if Humey sticked one of his three sitters against Brizzle City away....

OK, Jeff, your POV is similar to most. So, ANY of our players 'would have scored from the chance that he had'.

Hmmmmmm. Throughout the season, they didn't. And they ALL had the chance.

DJ Campbell - how much did we pay for this make-weight?

Steve Howard - can we please supply him with more Pukka Pies and teach him to do vertical jumps?

Puleeeeeeze. :(

Re: Hume

My opinion on Hume is that he has the ability to be a very good player, but more often than not he does not get his head up quick enough to play earlier passes to team mates to exploit space. He has a tendency to hog the ball and take on long shots when yet again he could look for a pass to a better placed team mate. Also, his first touch can let him down at times.

However, he will now finish the season as top scorer for I think the third season in a row (Stattos will be able to answer this better than I will). He has also been out of the team for a while in 2008 through injury, and should have been playing either up front or in a withdrawn striker role when he spent some of the season inexplicably on the right or left wing.

He is an infuriating player as he could be so much better given a little bit of understanding and awareness but having said that, attacking-wise, he is undoubtedly our best option as the guy keeps getting in the positions to score, whether he puts them away or not. I would rather have that than not in the positions at all.

Can this thread be merged with one of the other threads of a similar nature that are listed at the bottom of the page?

Yes. That's all you lot can do.

BMs go berserking for a player, and you have to diss him, coz it's like cool to be cool, and you wanna swim against the tide

Just get real. THINK.

Right, who would you put on the team sheet ahead of Hume? I'd put McCauley and Kisnorbo.

And.........

Can I play Na Na na Na Na Na on your Hammond Organ, please?

And can we all join in, to thank Ian Hume for his commitment to this club?

He's saving us.

He's a star.
