you calling Bill Shankley stupid then?

If you have not mis-quoted him out of context, yes.

For losing to be unacceptable you have to assume the arrogant position that our team is a) technically superior to every other team, b) must always win no matter how well the other team plays, or how badly luck or referee or other random variable goes agaist you.

I hope you would recognise that a) would require far more millions in player investment than we could hope for, and b) would require an arrogance from the manager and wholly unrealistic expectations from his players beyond that even of Jose and Sir Alex!

Absolutely.

While I also agree emotionally with BG's original comment, I do not see losing yesterday as wholly disasterous. Over the last few seasons they have played badly and won games, but I took little comfort from that as it was obvious they were unlikely to play much better and would not win that often. Yesterday there was enough on show in terms of individual performances to tell me that they are capable of doing far far better than we have been used to.

I would love to do all those things if I didn't live in another continent. I respect thst you guys see more of the team but am I not still entitled to an opinion?

Of course, but it seemed an odd comment to make out of the blue about someone who was for much of yesterday's game our most effective player.

I never quoted Shankley at all word for word.

All I was stating, it was something he used to say, not quoted word for word.

As for any sport you go into EVERY game with the intention of winning and if you accept losing by coming up with every excuse under the sun, then you are a loser.
I ALWAYS look upon my team being superior to the opposition, the day I lose that belief in this division is when I stop going down.

As for your last paragraph, yes your point a) is valid but we are not in the premiership we are in the Championship and for point b) I would want an arrogant manager and I hope the wally we have in charge now will turn into one with the results to back him up.

Again losing is not acceptable, how many on here will accept losing?

Good sentiments, fully agree.

Why start a thread ripping into one of our players who actually did alright today when the tit who started the thread never even went. mindless. Come to the stadium, buy a ticket and watch the match before starting a fukcing stupid thread like this. Idiot

maybe he didnt buy a ticket because he actually lives in america???? or are folk who live over there not allowed an opinion?? or perhaps maybe you should actually open your eyes and read what it says under his name
before you call him a tit??
as for newton well i actually like the bloke, ithink he was one of our most promising players from last year who never really proved himself due to the lack of quality around him, i expect him to do alot better this season.

Newton had a good game. The weaknesses were failing to boss the midfield from the beginning; failing to play at a fast enough pace and failing to play high enough up the field.

To his credit when MA brought on DJ as the third striker it was intially at the expense of the midfield. When he saw that was not working well enough he brought off Mattock so we played 3-4-3 and it was effective in terms of the possession we had and the chances that were being created. Even though we didn't we always looked, in the last 30 mins, as if we would score a goal!

We have a strong 'spine' of N'Gotty, Clemence and de Vries. I think once the team starts to 'gel' around this spine we will see tighter passing, more movement into space. This team does have a clue. It will get better. The goal was our fault for watching the ref not the ball. If the situation had been reversed we would have given the team huge grief if we had not done exactly the same thing.

25 000 in the stadium wanted us to win. We did not win. We were beaten by a newly promoted team. Spurs were beaten by a newly promoted team. It is not the end of their quest for a top 6 place, nor is it the end of ours.

We played well enough for 60 mins to genuinely say we did not deserve to lose. I am probably too biased to say we 'easily' deserved to win.

I am very confident that from what I saw today we will score a lot of goals and beat a lot of teams. I never felt like that last season, and we probably do not have our strongest team out yet!

I have to agree, the reaction has been so over the top on yesterdays performance. This was the first game and we played O.K.

I think that some people have been a little to sucked in by the MA & MM media sideshow (It's done to sell tickets you know!) and expected us to turn in a 3-4 goal win.
This is Leicester City, the team that's been in relegation trouble for 4 years.

Browsing through this and the other forum you would think that there were no good performances out there yesterday, Newton and MDV were two of the better players for me, aside from Fryatt, obviously!

:icon_lol::icon_lol:your welcome! ....any chance of a feebie ticket??:icon_wink

or maybe he made a pre-judged and secondary opinion off the radio. By all means, have an opinion but it's over harsh when he didn't see the game. Newton was okish - he played about 3 positions in the game.

Of course he wants to be at the game

i agree, to make an opinion off purely radio commentary is not as good as actually forming that opinion from being at the game, but if thats all that some have to form there opinions then at least have the decency to listen to them and make comment accordingly, dont just rubbish what he says because " i was at the game and you wernt therefore i know what im talking about and you dont"
were all fans of leicester and as a club we have a decent size fan base of which approx 15k are regular visitors to the games but if there,s are the only opinions that matter wont that alienate those that cant get to the games?
basically what im saying is if a poster cant post up on here his or her opinion about the game or an individual player without someone who has been to the game telling him to shut up because "he wasnt there" then thats wrong.

i was there and i dont like him, so there.

unless someone who wasn't there said "newton was shite today" which is bollocks as you can't back the argument up. newton was not one of the main culprits yesterday. personally i think most of the blame has to be placed straight at allen for thinking weso should play on the wing, why?????

It all starts with having a goalkeeper who's only ****ing tactic is to smash the ball up field as hard as he can, EVERY ****ING TIME.

His distribution is woefull and one dimensional.

Why the **** did we sign him. I know I dodn't see the game today but he is a complete waste of ****ing space. My God (or Allah in his case) I hope Kaebi is all he's cracked up to be and he gets match fit ASAP. Last season he had no more impact than Jason Jarrett and we didn't go out and sign him permanently. By our esteemed managers own admission he had one decent game against Birmingham and we signed him on the strength of that. Even in his prime at Charlton he was a slightly above average player.

What a stupid thread. Newton was one of our better players yesterday :icon_roll

and to the player who has the worst aerial ability in our squad. i'd have slated Hendo less had he aimed high balls at Hume all day, but ffs MDV is a player who is comfortable with the ball at his feet. unless he starts doing feckin handstands the hoofs up field will simply just be returned by the opposing defender

It pissed me off how for the whole of the pre season we have played with the ball on the floor and yet yesterday hendo seemed adament that counted for nothing.
