good piece that i agree with it...but what has walsh been stirring it up about?? is it a case of sour grapes because mm ignored his pleas to be manager???

Ollie was right.

He should understand how frustrated fans have got with the crap that has been served up over recent seasons though, but no point in booing players at all.

It is a fair point. He's identified a factor he fears might negatively affect the players, hence detracting from results, and gone public about it, which he is perfectly entitled to do - he is judged by results after all. Our atmosphere on matchdays is a dream for away teams. Yes, the boos are understandable but they don't help. They don't make matches any more fun either.

"Basically, strikers need their self-esteem building and they need to be boosted, moulded and given assurances. A striker is always worried about his place and whether he's scoring or not."

A quote from "Ollie". Ian Holloway's (ghosted) autobiography.

This chap is an expert at getting the best out of strikers - and signing good strikers, often for peanuts. Jason Roberts, Nathan Ellington, Bobby Zamora, Jamie Cureton, Barry Hayles have all been bought by this chap for modest outlays and been sold for many times more by their clubs. Sylvan Ebanks-Blake was purchased a couple of seasons ago for around £200,000 (about the time that we were laying out £300,000+ for Elvis Hammond).
If there is one thing that Holloway prides himself upon, it is knowing how to treat a striker: what do you think Carl Cort will do for him now? My bet is that he'd walk through fire and, if that is how the strikers who are currently with the club feel, wont that make the place look all the more inviting to the strikers, who you can bet your bottom dollar he will try to bring in to this club?

I'd bet on Cort starting and netting for us tonight.

Mixed views on this one.

I appreciate and agree with IH about the stick given to CC, it was out of order and counter-productive.

But, the fans need to see committment and honesty fom the players and managment as a minimum in order to be more supportive.

If IH was going to be critical of the treatment given to CC he should have also admitted that the overall performance of the team however was poor.

Rather off thread except that it is to do with Ollie's comments at the press conference. Either Olly or myself has got the rules wrong; probably me. Olly said that Clemence handball was not intentional. I thought the rules were controlling the ball with the hand and do not mention intent. Thus if the ball is diverted by touching the hand it is a foul. If the touch is so slight as to make no difference to the flight of the ball it is not a foul. Can someone more knowledgeable than me say whether the key thing is intention or control.

There will be better people than me to answer this properly but I thought it was more about "ball to hand" or "hand to ball" when deciding on ponalties.

I agree to an extent but its a self fulfilling prophecy.

If you boo, its only going to make things worse, if you cheer/support/encourage then it might not make a jot of difference but it certainly won't hinder.

I can see that.

But I think this debate partly stimulated by Holloway's comments is a waste of time and just a way of distracting from the real issues.

The most amazing thing to me is how is it in spite of changes in players and managers that we remain becalmed for season after season just above the relegation zone - we don't sink into the bottom three and we dont climb into the top half of the table - 14th - 18th is about our mark. We are remarkably consistent. I don't think this is anything to do with fans' vocal support or jeering. This is what Holloway should be addressing.

Ahh, but Redditch, the only thing consistent over these passed few years has been the fans, therefore, being the common denominator, it must be their fault ;)

My kids were cheering my driving to school this morning, I went at the speed limit and did not get arrested.

Suddenly, the lad started booing after I forgot to indicate a left-turn and all of a sudden it all went pear-shaped. I clipped a corner, ran over an old woman and flipped the car.

Running from the exploding mess I thought to myself "Well, there's a cautionary tale for the folks on TB".

Does anyone really want the Walkers to turn into an upside-down flaming pit of death? Do you? Do you really?

Funniest post I've read in ages.....nearly spat coffee everywhere.

He's probably chained himself to the railings to prevent being sent back for further booing.
