Do I remember correctly that Rob(ert) Kelly is on a one year rolling contract? If so, when does his first contract actually come to an end?

"One year rolling" means he always has a year left on his contract till it's terminated

At the end of each annual contract period there's nothing to allow LCFC not to renew it? And should he get the old heave ho LCFC would still have to pay him for a year?

Whoever thort of that is a genius, nice to see the club is run by people who are making good decisions and know what they are doing :icon_roll

It's the best thing for all concerned - far better than giving him a three year contract at the outset, and there's no way he would have accepted a contract, with, say, a three month notice period.

There is NO END.. his 1 year contract effectively renews every second of every minute of every day! :icon_eek:

Ah I see - thanks for the clarification.

It never needs renewing, unless the terms are to change at some stage. He would always be entitled to twelve months salary if given the heave-ho.

Maybe its me being thick, but whats the difference if we have to pay compensation anyway, why not just give him a 2 year contract instead of him always having one left to run? At least at the end of the two years, if he'd have got that far, he could have been booted out for nowt. Or am I completely getting it wrong :102:

But at any time the club could tell the manager they're going to stop the contract from rolling - which means it would become a 'normal' one year contract.

Yeah but that would be like offering him a new contract, wouldn't it?.. which no doubt he'd have to agree to and sign?

Now where did I leave that shell? :BeRightBa

A rolling contract has the advantage that the amount of any pay-out on termination is finite.

It provides the club with clarity, in terms of always being able to budget for termination, it also provides both parties with some security. At least we will always be guarenteed a compensation package should RK be poached by another club.

Also IMO the club were probably pensive about appointing an unproven manager on a longer term contract, as it would leave them exposed to high compensation packages (as per Levein) in the event of failure.

I may be wrong but I think either party can serve notice to 'stop' the rolling arrangement and it then becomes a straightforward 12 month contract. - Jeff has just confirmed this (sorry)

Wonder when clubs cotton onto the idea of putting players on similar arrangements, it would be a good way of guarenteeing a transfer fee.

But he wouldn't have to accept that - the effect in that case would therefore be that the club would be giving him one year's notice.
