Where I come from you go on a journey if you travel somewhere, so a bloke that does a lot of travelling would be a journeyman. In football parlance that has taken on the meaning that someone that has several clubs during their career. Stands to reason !!!

Usually they move for personal financial gain and show little loyalty to clubs. Others get moved on repeatedly cos they are rubbish and get found out. A classic example of this second type of journeyman would be Trevor Benjamin. Bless Him.
