I think I see what you're getting at. You're asking why we don't pay him off, like we did with Wellens, and possibly Beckford.

There's a big difference here. Wellens had no chance of playing for the first team and was therefore nothing but a drain on resources. We were better off getting rid of him, even if it meant paying him part of his remaining contract.

Konchesky played in the first two matches, and it seems he would have played on Saturday too if there hadn't been the possible transfer. The fact that he's in the manager's plans means we're not desperate to get rid, so there's no point accepting a deal that's not right for the club.
