It was when Martin O'Neill left us and we were looking for a new manager. In those days I posted regular news updates on filbertstreet.net. A friend wanted to annoy some Huddersfield fans, so I posted a story about their manager Steve Bruce being seen leaving a hotel with the Leicester chairman. It was on Teamtalk the next day, and at least one of the tabloids (Mirror or Sun I think), the day after that.

I managed to get an idle rumour that I made up a couple of years ago onto the BBC website's rumours section. The rumour was "Craig Hignett on a free".... and then the fecker came true, much to everyone's disappointment!

The one tip I have for would-be rumour-mongers is to use the name of an academy player or someone else connected with the club. Worked for me - I claimed to be Ahmed Deen, one of our youth players at the time, and said I'd seen him being shown round Belvoir Drive.... hook, line and sinker!

Never played for the first-team; he might have played for the reserves but I don't know.

He then had a few games for Peterborough, which led my POSH-home&away-supporting sister to inform me that he was crap.

He actually played 19 times for Aldershot before he was released 'by mutual consent' in January 2006 as Terry Brown started his clear-out.

Haven't heard about him since then.

Like so many others, seems to have gone rapidly downhill as soon as the realisation that he wasn't going to make the grade hit home.

Ahmed Deen was thrown out of the club after being accused of starting troublesome rumours on the internet..... Poor lad never got over the shock and his performances on the pitch suffered......... He slid down the leagues, eventually gave up football and is now a tramp in Manchester.........
