I fail to understand properly why having the second leg at home results in an advantage.

As someone has said somewhere, one advantage that could be gained is that if, at the end of the 90 minutes, the game is all square, it could be an advantage to be playing the extra time or (heaven forbid), taking penalties at your home ground.

What he said, post *18*, if i am wrong could you please tell me the % difference between the two statements to avoid me making such a glaring error in the future? :icon_wink

I'm with you on this one. The bounder called me a 'hair splitter'!!

What percentage of the time does the team finishing first go up?

I don't think the fact that a team finishes first has any correlation at all with going up, being only related to the referee's judgement of the amount of time that needs to be added at the end of the 90 minutes. If it were so that the team finishing first were automatically promoted it would surely lead to teams not using any of their substitutes, cutting goal celebrations to a minimum, and generally not wasting a single second of playing team.

I should also point out that it is not really possible for one team to finish first because every match involves two teams and they would therefore both finish at the same time and there finish joint first.

The introduction of this rule would of course mean that Manchester United would be relegated every season.

He doesn't want an answer, just a percentage...

In the last ten years 6 winners played away first leg and 4 played at home. Also in the last twenty years the teams that have finished

3rd - 7 times
4th -3 times
5th- 6times
6th 4 -times.

Yes its a been a busy old day . :icon_lol:

The sample is too small. Post the figures again in a hundred years time and the numbers may be significant.

God you lot talk some crap sometimes
