League one players that have impressed and that we could sign

I think that there's no harm at looking at the best players in League 1,as they could more than hold their own in the Championship. Let's hope we have moved on from signing the likes of N'Gotty, Campbell, Tiatto, Newton, Keown,Dublin etc - ie used to play in the Premiership, so must be good enough to help with a promotion push in the Championship.

I've seen him quite a few times and he's probably been Carlisle's best player this season, but still not as good as the players we've already got.
That's the main point, I think. Our current squad has just won Leaue 1 at a canter. There will be a few lower league players, no doubt, who would be good additions, but on the whole it'd be more of the same or downgrading from what we have now.

How many Championship and even Premier clubs are wondering if they should try and sign Fryatt - he's got 30 goals so he must be better than what we've already got. Not necessarily...

And how many of the up-and-coming lower league players sold for big (ish) money in the past few years have made it in the Championship or higher? I can't really think of any*, but can think of plenty who haven't.

*Cue a list of a million names to prove me wrong. Go on, go ahead...

Chris Taylor - no thanks, mardy arse and no good anyway.

Richie Lambert - at 27 I think hes getting on a bit, hes good at his level but I cant say as hed be a worthwhile investment for a club looking to get into the Premier League.

I think players worth atleast looking at would be:

Boyd, Mackail-Smith (Peterboro')
Beckford (Leeds)
Lewington (MKDons)
Cox (Swindon)
Surman (Southampton)

I think we are pretty desparate for one maybe even two permanent keepers of quality, and I think we've had some good ones in on loan here this season. I'd think we'd stand a good chance of getting Martin in on a permanent from Liverpool and I hope we do that but Stockdale and Bunn have impressed and Kelvin Davis is now ripe for the picking at Southampton...

If they've offered him a new contract he won't be free.

... and if he's been listening to DJ Campbell whilst they've both been on loan to Blackpool, he might not want to come to Leicester anyway.

Add Peter Leven to that and there all worth a look. Lewington has looked a good player for a while. Cox was quite possibly the best player i've seen down there this year. the 2 posh players look interesting but we wont get them. beckford depends on weather leeds go up. not seen much of surman but loads of people say he is the best player the saints have got.

Not that we have a chance of signing him but i think George Boyd was the best player i've seen play against us this season.

I mentioned him in the second post of this thread, but I agree we won't stand a chance of signing him because of Peterborough being promoted as well.

If we are serious about getting to the Premier League, we're going to have to stop this "oh, we'll have no chance of signing this League 1 player, or signing that player from Peterborough or MK Dons" nonsense.

If you want the Premeier League, you've got to think like a big club and have the attitude that you deserve to be there. Otherwise we'll be small time forever.

I may struggle to take anything you say seriously ever again.

I think I have a valid point but whatever. 27 may not be over the hill but for me it's a bit old for someone who doesn't have more experience playing at a higher level than league one and especially so when there are a few better alternatives. A good example is Trundle, isn't he a similar age but failed to make the step up to the Championship after a good few seasons in league one with Swansea...?

Of course, another example of a 27 year old stepping up from League 1 (or whatever it was then) would be Matt Elliott...

:Icon_lol: Fair does

IMO Cox would be a better long term investment, younger, quicker and would give us something we don't currently have. I think Beckford would be the best buy of the lot but I don't think we'd get him for a fair price regardless of whether or not Leeds get promoted this year.

What makes me laugh is when people say Fryatt wont be good enough next season and then go on to say Cox would be a great signing.

Baffling it really is.
