I expected that game a few weeks back, there has been no improvement since.

Don't think Pearson helps himself sometimes, some crazy decisions made with regard to the starting line up yesterday. 4-5-1 at home to Barnsley.

We've got some real tough fixtures coming up now, Middlesboro, Cardiff and Southampton all in a row.. going to be great fun. Just hope we don't get relegated so we can have a fresh start with no chop and change next season! Although knowing us Pearson will be given his marching orders and we have to hop on the merry go round again...

Can't see us doing much against any of those. Even in our play off season we were distinctly poor against those in the top 6.

I do not for one second think we'll get relegated but if we did that would be a perfectly good reason to get sacked. Inheriting a club that was just outside of the play offs and guiding them to relegation would mean you've done something catastrophically wrong. Like I said won;t happen. I'll make a prediction of finishing 14th and around 12 points off the play offs

What was Pearson's first game back? Portsmouth?

He's had 9 league games and not brought any of his own players in yet.

When Sven left, there was a lot of criticism for how unbalanced the squad was and that we'd just collected a load of very similar midfielders with no real creativity.

I think it's too early for so much criticism of NP personally. Give the man time. We've been poor recently but five points off the playoffs means we're far from out of it, and the majority of these players aren't as poor as people make out.

With 3/4 good players signed this month (and the majority of Pearson's signings were good for us), I expect a much better second half to the season personally.

10 games, first was the 3-0 win over Palace.

Pearson has to have the time to sort this shit out anyone who continues to slate Pearson and claim Sven was the best thing since sliced bread should maybe just have a think back.....

It was Sven that signed the following:

Matt Mills - reasonable player at this level but to spunk 5m and over 20k per week over a long term contract for an average championship defender

Sean St Ledger - been on a downward spiral at this level for 2 seasons or so but again offered a ridculous contract unbecoming of a player who again at best is average

John Pantsil - premiership money for a player who has hardly kicked a ball in anger this season

Michael Johnson - another waste of a loan fee and wages, hardly featured

Gelson Fernandes - talented player but not suited to the hustle and bustle of the championship and even under Sven wasn't an automatic first choice

Neil Danns - another signed on a lucrative contract and has done very little to justify such an outlay, has been on the periphy for most of the season often played out of position by Sven, only since Pearson has joined has he had an opportunity to feature in his favoured position.

jermaine Beckford - panic buy on deadline day another signed for an inflated fee and unsustainable wages, has never fitted in and looked lost from day one.

now onto the new contracts dished out under Sven:

Andy King - probably our most effective attacking player over the past 3 seasons or so however in the last six months has been a shadow of himself however it was Sven who extended his contract on improved terms

Paul Gallagher - another who has been given improved terms by the super swede

finally the shittest player to ever don a blue shirt ....according to some

Richie Wellens given an improved contract and selected as an ever present, injury or suspension permitting by Sven and labelled our best and most complete midfielder.

people need to face facts Pearson has inherited a squad lacking hunger or desire, happy to earn multiple million pound deals without ever justifying such an outlay, even the players who were already here have benefitted from Sven's generosity and now it is the job of Pearson to try and move out these under performing wasters and try to bring some reality back to the club and go back to the days of identifying talented youngsters who want to develop and further their careers through hard graft and success, rather than this bunch of misfits who are feasting off the naivety of star struck owners and a former manager who was intent on buying his way to success.

DO we actually know what anyone's wages are or are we basing this on paper talk?

I cry out for it every 6 ****ing months and it never happens, Time, time, time, please!!

I have about lost it with this club, the fans make it nearly impossible for me to keep any type of enthusiasm.

Yep. I've got used to this same old pattern every year since Micky Adams left now.

We start the season with high hopes, everyone expecting us to at least make the playoffs. Uneasy start makes people panic though and start to hound the manager. The "Current Manager out!!" cries start in September and by the start of October, the pressure has boiled up to the point where Current Manager can do nothing right. By mid-October, there is no way back and Current Manager is sacked and we get New Manager in.

Instantly, everyone's hopes are renewed and of course we're still going to win the league/make the playoffs. Few months later though and with no drastic upturn in fortunes, people start to question New Manager and whether he was the right choice. Maybe we would've been better sticking with Current Manager after all? Disgruntled voices think we should get rid of New Manager soon so that there is still time to fight and save the season and avoid getting dragged into a relegation dogfight. But the disgruntled voices are balanced out by those saying "These are still Current Manager's players... The players are unfit and not good enough. New Manager needs a pre-season and time to get his own players before we can judge". And usually, they get that.

But then new season starts, the new players haven't instantly fired us to the top of the league and the disgruntled voices start to question New Manager's ability, his signings and by September they're saying we should've got rid of him last year while we had the chance, now the whole season is ruined again. By October, New Manager finds himself out of a job and we bring in Next Manager.....

Repeat ad nauseum.

The only slight variation on this seems to be the occassional additional manager sometime in the second half of the season who doesn't get the pre-season.

By the way, I'm not saying that some of those managers aren't to blame.... but we just keep repeating the process over and over. Surely we need to give someone time and support? Instead, the majority seem to want to be the first to criticise the manager/players so they can say "I told you so" when they eventually go.

But yesterday did feel like that game - in the second half it seemed like every single misplaced pass or mistake was being booed. (Incidentally, I've never seen any player drastically improve during a game after being booed by his own supporters).

I don't remember any of that against Peterborough, Ipswich or Portsmouth.

what the **** was it then? It looked like 4-5-1/4-3-3 when in posession to me. Whatever it was it didn't fecking work!

I agree it didn't work, but people keep using this 4-5-1/too defensive line up stick to beat Pearson with, yet their two goals were on the counter attack and through shit defending.

I agree with you lako. The only problem is that the club through the new owners is reeling what it has sewn. For what it's worth I think they should have given Sven the season at least. We were in a better position then to where we are now and given the current transfer window he may have bought in a couple more players to push us on.

The fact is he was sacked with us 4 points (I think) adrift of the play offs having completely changed how we play - a more passing and patient game which albeit wasn't totally successful was at least entertaining in the most.

So top goes and sacks him and the ONLY conclusion we can draw from this is that we were underachieving and top thought he could get a better man in elsewhere.

So what do we do - we limp along for a fortnight allegedly approaching every man and his dog offering the job. We eventually find Pearson as about 5th choice and bring him in. The fans are bound to then expect fairly instant changes in fortune or what was the point in sacking Sven in the first place?

My point is I would have had patience with sven because I liked what he was trying to achieve on the field by playing passing football and was a gentleman, whereas NP is a more direct manager and appears to have the people skills of alf garnett.

But in those games we created chances yesterday we huffed and puffed like a castrated wolf rather than foxes after a chicken and Barnsley were like baying hounds after a fox and we were too easily hunted down that made the kill too easy.

I seem to remember it being a much batted about stat just before the play-offs started that we had taken the most points from the other play-off teams throughout the season than the the other 3: did the double over Blackpool and beat Cardiff and Forest at home in the league season too (though lost to them both away). We also took points off Newcastle as well.

Spot on. All the fans calling for the manager's head or saying he should be given only to the end of the season are half the problem.

We've had more managers than any other league team in the country this century and our incredibly impatient fans are to blame. We know NP can build a promotion chasing squad for this division, we've seen it twice: once with us and once with Hull. Give him 2 or 3 years to get his own squad together and I'm confident we'll be right up there.

And NP is spot on about delusions of grandeur, mediocre mid-table squad we have here: too many players with awful mentalities. As it is, we're a mid-table side with a mid-table squad, not promotion chasers, accept it.
