Too true.

The typical process in this type of dialogue when we have a manager who is hopeless at team selection is that an ignoramus like me claims that our manager is a dullard. Followed by a learned poster pointing out that the manager sees the players all week in training and has infinitely more knowledge of football than a prat like me. Followed by the manager getting the chop about five minutes later. Puel hasn't been here too long but he seems determined to prove Southampton right by making serial rubbish choices. My long experience tells me that the fans are usually more right then wrong and that Puel is on thin ice already.

I'm not necessarily referring to this post in particular, but you do seem to have excessively negative outlook, so I just wondered if you are genuinely this down on life in general.

I did acknowledge that I was an ignoramus in my post ......you are obviously a top learned poster. Nonetheless, Puel won't be around long unless he ups his game on team selection. Just saying.

I posted loads in our title winning year. I also post a lot of criticism when I think we're underachieving against our potential. It's not a negative thing, I enjoy doing it.

Some people are more motivated to post when the going is good. Some when the going is bad. So what?

There's nowhere near enough disgruntlement around. We need more challenging and agitating feckers as far as I'm concerned. If there was a bit less compliance and acceptance and disinterest about, maybe the atmosphere would be better and the team might be performing better?

I like a good moan - obviously.

That said, the life seems to have been sucked out of Leicester City and its fan base. Someone - sorry I forget who - posted recently that the club knew what it was getting in terms of style of play when they appointed Puel.

Well I can see that the playing style is more viable in the long term but I am convinced that team selection is so poor that it is reducing the chances of actually winning games against much weaker club.

I'm not having a go at these people here (honest), but (off the top of my head quickly), for instance:
Matty James could score a hattrick in 8 consecutive games and londonfox would still be slating him.
Redditch does appear to only post in a moaning manner, or disappear when that wouldn't be appropriate.
dpjfox will always predict a win for us (or a tight 1-1 away at Barcelona), even when all evidence suggests otherwise.

I apologise in advance if those stereotypes are unfair, it's just how they come across to me. I prefer someone to tell it how it is, whereas it does feel like some posters are so set in their ways, they are unable to say anything to the contrary.

It's also, obviously, absolutely fine for one person to think something is good and another person to think it's shit. I'd just rather posters didn't say the same thing every single time, as I find it hard to take it that seriously as a result.

I don't think I have more negative feelings, but I don't like to say what has already been said for the sake of it, so having read a thread I rarely feel I can add anything meaningful if things are positive.

When things aren't going well there is more room for opinions and analysis, and combined with the added desire to vent frustration makes me more likely to post when I'm feeling negative.

Exactly. And on subject there were at least 4 errors imo in selection for the Stoke game: Morgan, Chilwell, James, Gray. No manager can get it that wrong and expect to win games.The subs bench however looked good - no wonder most of them plus Silva who was not even a sub- should have started. A further blunder - probably not the work of Puel- was to loan out both Slimani and Ulloa. I don't particularly rate either but losing both closed tactical options when the attack is not delivering.

I’m probably going to make a pretty unfashionable point here regarding Gray and Chilwell. But I’m also not a frequent contributor unless I feel I want to add something to the debate, whilst enjoying/suffering BN’s opinions and Redditch’s pessimism!

It’s clear to everyone they are not the finished article by a long chalk. But I for one think Chilwell in particular has a big future in the game. I’m probably biased as a former fullback in my youth but I really enjoy his forward runs and I’ve pointed out before how great defenders make mistakes in their early days. Gray seems to be on a downward curve and is not having the influence on games we’d want - but too young to write him off.

Can anyone honestly say if Albrighton, Morgan, Simpson and even Vardy were at the club at Chilwell’s age that there wouldn’t be a pocket of fans who would say they’d never make it? Our future title winners? Can’t we give players a chance to develop?

therefore isn’t now the perfect time to try them out, put up with their errors and at the end of the season make a reasonable judgement about their capability after a proper season in the Prem? We’re safe, have nothing to play for (a), and will learn far more about their ability to respond to setbacks than we would seeing them plying their trade for Ipswich on loan.

Good to read some reasoned opinion rather than thinly veiled personal abuse.

Interesting to look at the 7th place issue. Unclear to me whether clubs see 7th as a positive or a negative. On balance, I think fans would welcome qualifying for the Europa League and I guess that the players would hate July qualifying games. I do think that the powers that be need to re-think so that qualifying isn't seen as a punishment.
