Not pretty but luck was on our side. Mendy's performance was a positive and both Maddison and Ricardo did well. Vardy with a totally brainless challenge. All a bit meh but a win is a win.

Ricardo was great again.
Mendy was surprisingly good - very good IMO.
Evans poor - slow, lazy, doesn't seem to read the game well....

Over all a difficult game to judge. We were poor to start, but improved vastly towards the end of the 1st half after the team talk. Second half again we didn't start great and then Vardy's sending off really put the skids on things in terms of our attacking threat. We looked resolute and pretty solid with 10 men though, dealing easily with crosses and restricting them to pot shots from outside the box and Wolves never really troubled us despite all their possession and the quality they seem to have going forward...

A win is a win.

Doesn't sound like the best performance but would rather play poorly and win than play well and lose - which is what we had last weekend.

Not an easy game, Wolves will get some good results this season so we've avoided a potential banana skin here and got our first points of the season.

I don't think Maguire was that bad, certainly a lot better than Evans but I' say on the whole the defence was still suspect. The incident between Schmeichel and Chilwell for instance shows it was part of an over all problem. Shouldn't really write Evans off after a single game at the end of the day. On the positive side I think Ricardo was a much better choice at RB, did his duties there well enough and still got forward a lot and looked threatening in doing so - also had some good link up plays with Gray.

I'm pleased for Mendy. Had a nightmare since he's been here so he could effectively be a new signing. I've been hoping we wouldn't just let him go without really giving him a chance, the fact that we have a manager with prior knowledge of him has no doubt been helpful. Lets hope it pays off. As for Evans, well he can't be that bad. He's a proven PL defender over a fair amount of years so has to get better. Gerry Taggart was dogshit for us in his first few games I remember & people were convinced we'd been sold a clunker.

Maybe there was more focus on Evans as it was his first game. They seemed to be marking each other for most of the game with no care about where the opposition were. Both dog turd but thankfully Wolves didn’t want to score.

Commented on this the match thread, but could part of Evans' performance be down to him being the right sided centre back when he's used to being on the left?

Obviously makes a big difference to your positioning and reading of the game having your centre back partner being on the other side of you.

I didn't see the game so don't know, just interested on opinions from people who were there.

I don’t think Maguire was too bad either but he struggled a little more than usual because he was having to do the job of 3 men. Evans was just atrocious so he was constantly covering that and Chilwell was leaving huge gaps and forgetting to mark players so Maguire was trying to deal with that as well. Not his best game but not his worst.

He didn’t look fit to me. At all.

Goalposts were our MOTM! Some good performances, especially Ricardo, although Maguire seemed half asleep at times. Maddison looked happy on the pitch. We’re going to miss Vardy. What happened to Ndidi at the end?

Perhaps I’m in the minority there then. I thought both were absolute turd and had Mandy and ‘N’Didi’ not done most of the defensive work the game would have been lost easily. Neither player marked the opposition in open play and stood next to each other. The two fullbacks were good going forward but a bit meh defensively. For all of the attacking possession they had wolves were ****ing dreadful. Can’t imagine they’ll get as many easy opportunities for an away win but ****ed it up proper.

What a weird match.

We were poor throughout, Wolves were a bit better but not special at all. They wasted opportunities most Premier League teams would have taken. We got away with it. In particular, our start was awful yet again.

Ricardo easily man of the match for us. He's an excellent wing back - he's not a winger or a full back. Same with Chilwell, excellent going forward from deep, pretty average at everything else. We went to a back three in the second half and that's obviously the strongest formation for the players we have. Bizarre that Puel in his post match interview has just said that he doesn't agree. The switch today was a one-off apparently.

Evans was terrible undoubtedly. However, I don't understand why he was on the right side of the defence. I've never seen him not play on the left side. Surely the two central defenders should have been the other way round?

Mendy was excellent. Almost Kantesque in some of his play. Maybe he's finally ready to replace him?

The front four were all poor. Vardy was anonymous until he was an idiot and got himself sent off. You really don't need to give Mike Dean an opportunity to show a red card. Maddison was okay but crowded out easily in the first half. Gray was frustrating as ever.

Lucky three points, and we'll happily take them. Still learnt nothing much about whether we can be any good this season or not.

Evans stunk the place out. Truly, truly awful in every way

It was a pretty bobbins performance overall, and we made them look like a good team for significant parts of the game. They aren't - we were just all over the place at times

Maddison looked ok, Ndidi and Mendy were forced into working their nads off to cover for the shambles happening behind them, and did well.
Vardy's challenge was as ugly and misplaced as his whole performance. Yuk

Three points is three points, but wow that wasn't good
