Oh, and another thing while I'm being a grumpy old git. The speakers in SK4 weren't working. I seem to recall this happened at the start of last season as well.

Didn't they improve when you changed the batteries in your hearing aid? Perhaps you should try that again.

Yes. Last season it was wider and slightly plastic coated. Yesterday narrow and seemingly just card. Last season it lasted until around the last quarter of the game before breaking up, yesterday it was in pieces before half time.

Suppose it also depends on how often you bash your clacker during the game.

Anyway, shoddy clackers I can put up with. My biggest gripe is with the ****ing banner in the kop. Sure it looks great from three sides of the ground but when you are stuck underneath the bastard thing on a muggy humid day and can't see **** all on the pitch whilst the teams come out and have to stand up with your arms outstretched to keep the filthy bastard plaggy cover off your head and give yourself some breathing space and try to help a wife who gets slightly claustrophobic.........

Yeah you mean well you lads in the top corner, but forfoxsake have some consideration and stick to pitchside banners in future.

Must have been awful.

For some unknown reason, Vardy decided to borrow Benny's fluorescent yellow boots and the consequences were severe. Why it isn't blindingly obvious that such footwear draws the referee's eye in the way a pair in taupe or a sober teal wouldn't, continues to puzzle me. The half a dozen wearing white boots should watch out too, especially Wilf, whose long, elegant feet are always going to be very visible, too.

Otherwise, enjoyed the match a lot - bodes well for the season, once they're settled, especially at the back (I'm looking at you too, Kasper).

I’m not ignoring the way the game went, I’ve mentioned that in a previous post.

However, we have a collection of young players who seem to enjoy playing together and, with a bit of time to grow, could form a really positive future.

It pissed me off as well. They've gone a bit mad with the banners. The last couple have been annoying and have subdued, rather than enhanced, the atmosphere.

Yesterday, it was unfurled too early so we were all stood for several minutes under a shitty plastic sheet. Personally, I wanted to watch and clap the team out for the first game of the season, not be stuck in the dark.

I actually like the things usually but if they are going to be so big and fixed in place, they need to bring them out at the right time (once the teams are out) and remove them quicker.

We've started to get that Spursy thing going on though. The wanky handshakes and giggly twatishness.

My thought as I saw Maddison and Chilwell doing their 'celebration' was that we were missing the influence of the likes of Huth and Wasyl in the dressing room telling the pair of them to stop being kiddy twats and concentrate on actually becoming successful players.

Oh yeah I get that. Maddison was doing the daft handshake thing with Gray, too.

I’m assuming that people like Wes are good around the dressing room to keep focus in the right place though and I’d still rather we had a close group of players who work for each other, than a group of players who were all about themselves.

Jesus I feel old.

Have to agree, there's no excuse for that challenge.
In my day it was merely a hard tackle, I've seen it on MOTD and really do not think it was a straight red, not even a yellow.
He got the ball in a 50;50 and kept his feet low. But yes in todays game I suppose its not encouraged among the prima donnas,
but I bet on the parks today it will be common place, unpunished and the players will get up and get on with the game.

Given that his foot was nearly at knee level on his opponent, I can’t see how you think he kept his feet low.

Yeah, how dare they enjoy the game. Those little bastards.

Watching the highlights, Chilwell deserves big credit for his goal line clearance. Reacted very quickly to get that away, and was in the right position to be able to react too.

He's definitely growing defensively.

My hearing aid relies on 4G and that is generally inaccessible in the ground!

As many have said, the positives were Pierera (sp) who was my man of the match, followed closely by Mendy. The latter was a revelation, really surprised how well he played. That said, we knew he was a good player, Walsh tried to get him for our then manager before he got Kante. The latter was 2nd choice! However I thought that even if he not affected by past injuries - it might take him several games to be good again but he was great yesterday from his first touch onwards. Hugely impressed. This was a brave selection from Puel by the way. Perhaps there's more to this guy that many of us detractors have thought.

The negatives were stated by most here already; Evans was AWFUL. However, in the last 25 minutes he suddenly morped into being dependable. Not sure how/why what's going on here. We might attribute it to 3 at the back, or getting into the groove after a long lay off. I'm hoping that it's NOT being on the right side because I can't see Puel changing that. Anyway, if he doesn't shape up quick & look like the defender that we bid £20m for last season, we have 2 new recruits chomping at the bit.

Maguire was shakey too but nothing to be alarmed about. I thought Maddison was very quiet to be fair. Came into his own much later in the game but we can all see that he is a player and of course scored. I wonder if he was carrying a little niggle?

Chilwell is growing on me. For all the comments made by others, I'm close to converting to thinking he should keep his place. The great unknown until we are about 6 games into the season is if our way of playing 2 full backs pushing so far forward is going to cause the large gaps that others have pointed out to be fatal. If they cause us problems but we still win games, we'll be happy.

Finally, I really thought Wolves were a spent force after their early dominance and that we were about to take over the game... infact there were the beginnings of that happening - but Vardy then got himself sent off & that changed the dynamics of everything.
