The last time we were in a comparable position in our history - outside the top flight for a sustained period - was under Pleat. Then we were depressingly average to poor season in, season out. Our attendances were less than 10,000 and the atmosphere was often dreadful. This only changed when Brian Little and Barrie Pierpoint reinvented the club for the better. Two people that were eventually treated as villians despite the remarkable job they did for us on and off the field. We have no equivalents to them today and, until we do, I fear that people won't be arsed to create the atmosphere you're after.
In spite of the disconnection largely caused by the absurd wages - fuelled by televsion revenue and debt - gates have held up remarkably well....and not just at Leicester.
The atmosphere has gone partly because working class people have been partially out priced balanced out by better off people now not looking down on the game. It's all about getting more Bs and C1 consumers into the ground and buying the merchandise.
