I'd imagine the South Stand could be expanded as there's car park behind it - same with the East Stand.

If memory serves me right, it is the East Stand that was designated to be the one to be increased in size. Can't see it happening 'tho - complete waste of money.

We have a stadium we which simply cannot pay for, and which we cannot fill

Quite why some people think it is good business sense to wrack up a whole lot more wholly unservicable debt for another ten thousand seats that we cannot fill just to get one shitearse meaningless world cup game between someone shit like Australia and Denmark is beyond me

'tis silly season, and that's for sure

Just looking at the criteria for Host City selection, it says:

Successful cities will show they have the infrastructure necessary to meet or exceed FIFA’s requirements. This includes stadiums, training venues, base camps and Fan Parks.

They will have excellent accommodation and transport services, and robust plans for safety, security and sustainability.

Successful cities will have strong public backing for their bid, plus the support of local and regional media.

We have a top quality training venue, especially if the rumours about moving are true.

Abbey Park and Victoria Park would make ideal venues for Fan Parks.

I'm unsure about accomodation, but there seems to be hotels springing up all over the place.

Transport might be a bit of a hurdle, but there's time to sort that.

And i'm sure we'd have a massive public backing, and the Mercury will be all over it like flies on poo...

Amen brother homer

We'd either have a sponsor have to cough up the cash or about 5 years at Premiership level. Both look unlikely given the circumstance.

That said Nottingham would have to build a whole new stadium.

When we were in the Prem we filled it up every week, we could easily average 35-40k in the Prem. Just a shame we have to get there pretty sharpish if any of this is ever going to come about

I agree with your point. The only thing stopping us would be the money, and whether it would be worth the risk and investment.

It could be the point that City get promoted, and then the Stadium is expanded anyway.

Looking at 2006, every stadium hosted at least 4 games. Whether this would be the case for 2018, I don't know.

Unlikely but not impossible!

I believe that to be the case also and the planning permission is already in place for this to be done at anytime as the ground was originally given consent for 40K and the ground we have at the minute was built as the phase 1 of this overall 40k ground. Phase 2 can therefore be carried out at anytime without the need for any new planning application or the restrictions that could carry.

I can also see the argument that Leicester has hosted England internationals and also the Brazil v Jamaica game and therefore should have an advantage over some other cities. Would be a hell of a lot of money though at a time when we can ill afford it. I imagine we would try to encourage some funding from the Lottery, Sport England and the Local Authority though.

I'm shocked and appalled that the Foxes Trust aren't doing something about this.
Why, oh why, oh why don't they get the collection buckets out to help fund this project?

Given that were the 4th poorest city in England we would have an advantage over other cities via the sympathy vote but there again if our city council has anything to do with the outcome were doomed as there the tightest bunch of miserable killjoys going.

However we have one of the highest Millionaire populations, the county as a whole that is.

There are to be 16 stadiums to be included in the "Bid Book". (Germany had 12 stadia used in the finals).

There are 15 Cities that have applied to be Hosts:

source?

2018/2022 we could have a 60,000 stadium anyway and be winning champs league for all we know.

We could also be propping up the Blue Square....

It's a pipe dream at most.
