BENEFITS TO HOST CITIES

Selected Host Cities will have a wonderful chance to showcase themselves to the watching world and thousands of visitors. They’ll become a magnet for sporting, cultural and entertainment events.

Inward investment and the income from thousands of business and leisure visitors will enable existing infrastructure to be upgraded, and create new jobs. Sports facilities will be improved.

Being a World Cup venue will generate pride, prestige and excitement. The city will have a team of motivated volunteers. And a new generation will be inspired to play sport.

When Germany hosted 2006 FIFA World Cup™, the country’s tourist industry enjoyed a $400m uplift. Hundreds of businesses benefited from two million international visitors and a total of 3.3m spectators, many of them watching on big-screens in city centres. 85,000 jobs were created by the tournament.

So does this mean that any expansion of the stadium would be funded at least in part, if not completely? If so then it's a no brainer surely :102:

ta

seems unlikely that they will have three east midlands cities...hmmm

and of the 15...only 7 by my count have a stadium over 40k

Bristol would have to be a new stadium, surely

Yes, that's right.

But obviously with expansions, there would be a few more over 40k.

I reckon Leicester has better road and rail links that Nottingham and Derby. With a bit of funding towards public transport, I reckon that Leicester would be ideal.

any old crap game would do

Ivory Coast vs South Korea or something random

i think tb should pick one team and foxestalk can pick the other

:)

Like I said in a previous post, German stadiums hosted a minimum of 4 games.

the 40k rule was introduced at Germany 2006 and they had to cut the number of stadia to 12

it looks like there's only 10 for SA 2010 from a shortlist of 13

interestingly though, all the stadia get at least 4 games by the looks of it

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Africa_2010#Venues

the only rules i can see for 2018 are the 40k rule and the only one stadium per city except host city rule

could join forces with Forest & Derby for an East Midlands group...six games, two each, set up your base camps in the countryside, close to East Midlands Airport and M1...jackpot

Looking down the list of cities that have nominated, im really starting to think this could happen now

Of the 16 possible stadiums whove put in bids, Bristol, Hull, Portsmouth and Milton Keynes need far, far more development than ours, so that make the most obvious 12 venues theoretically

1. Birmingham
2. Derby
3. Leeds
4. Leicester
5. Liverpool
6. London (2 venues)
7. Manchester
8. Newcastle
9. Nottingham
10. Sheffield
11. Sunderland

And looking down the list Leicester, Derby, Leeds, Sheffield and Nottingham all need expending to get to 40k. OK Leeds and Sheffield only by a few hundred, but if there is going to be 12 i can see some funding from the lottery or the FA or such like

I would have thought London would have had three venues (Wembley, Emirates, Stamford Bridge) and Manchester would have had two (COMS, Old Trafford).

No, according to rules, only 1 city is allowed to have every 2 stadiums (London, obviously), every other city can only have one

"Milan Mandaric took over the financially stricken club in October 2006 in a £25 million deal. A reported £15 million of these went to buy back the stadium from Teachers Insurance."

Do we own our stadium again or are we stll paying rent to Teachers Insurance?

Given that weve bought back the stadium, own it id imagine :icon_wink

Makes sense the we sell out every week so yeah expanding the stadium could work!

No really, it would be good for Leicester in general to host a game, would definetly go even if its someone like Togo v Bahrain.

the local London news was saying Wembley, Emirates, Stamford Bridge and the new Spurs' ground

erm...where's this 1 per city and 2 per capital rule?
