I seem to remember this being on TV a while back. Iirc it's something to do with the fact there were a lot of beans grown in the area. Beans being the staple diet of the peasants before the potato was discovered. There used to be a village of the same name in Notts but it changed it's name to Barton Flaveal so as not to cause confusion (flaveal being latin for beans).

PS I might have spelt Flaveal wrong.
