Following conflicting newspaper reports, linking Mike Newell and Iain Dowie with the club, who would you prefer as Manager

I dont understand why some of you want Dowie... Whats he actually done? Ok fair enough he got Palace promoted, but then look they went straight back down, he had a season in the championship and they never went straight back up.. then he tried being manager at charlton and got sacked after doing really poor. The only reason it looked like he did a good job was because he had some good players espc Andy Johnson i dont think we have £8 million worth of talent
Id prefer to have RK then an over-paid Dowie who we'll probably sack after poor results.

I've voted for Mike Newell who I think the club should have appointed last season - although I appreciate they were strapped for cash.

Newell has shown signs that he can achieve success even though his also poverty stricken Luton are having a poor time this season.

He can also present himself quite well and tho' he's made some ill considered remarks (but so do the managers of the most successful clubs in the country) he has also shown courage...e.g. on the bungs issue where everyone knows the cash under the table culture of football makes detection very difficult.

Most important tho' is that Kelly must go. In my opinion the club has little or no chance of making progress under his 'so called' management.....the way that he presents defeats as some sort of positives e.g. the missed golden opportunities to capitalise on home draws in both cup competitions is a joke, and/ or indicative of his very limited ambitions. Also, it's now become clear that the team only lifts its performances to showcase in higher profile games and sinks back to the less than mediocre in 'run of the mill' games - all signs that Kelly cannot motivate.

Agree Redditch, also the way Newell has continued to keep Luton competitive in this division despite losing so many of his quality players, he has lost Nicholls, Edwards, Howard and Vine since the end of last season how would Kelly cope with the loss of say Kisnorbo, McAuley, Hume and Fryatt, my fear would be that we would sink without trace.

I say keep RK for now, especially if they're the compition, there bioth idiots, and crap managers!

What is your basis for the opinion that they are both idiots and crap managers. They have both achieved significantly more than Kelly and IMO RK has done little to justify such faith in his abilities this season.

I think Dowie and Newell are over-rated TBH, and they must have made mistakes in their early days, just like Kelly has. I think he can learn from them and be a good manager, although if MM comes in, almost definately not with us.

They're both hot-headed bullys, and personally I think that is the last thing you want for a manager, although some may disagree

Sure they've done well at one club when they started out, but over the past year or so they're starting to prove it waw just beginner's luck

Phew.

When I saw the title I thought Graham Poll was considering a career change

I am fairly sure the same could be levelled at Kelly, there has been numerous reports of fall outs with certain players and comparing last seasons results with this season's you could say that Kelly enjoyed beginners luck. Too be fair to Newell he has done exceptionally well at Luton and bearing in mind he has been forced to sell his better players IMO is testament to his organisational, tactical and motivational abilities.

Fine, but Kelly's always come across as calm and collected to me...

Not that calm and collected otherwise we would be battling it out in the top half of the table and not throwing away countless leads and match winning positions.

I'm just saying in interviews or whatnot. Whatever, I would just prefer for him to be in charge than Dowie or Newell

You are entitled to your opinion and I fully respect it, but I just cannot see where the Kelly enthusiasts can justify that he is doing a good job. Last season he did very well to galvanise the squad and lead us to safety, however I think this has clouded some fans opinion of him, as this season has been mediocre with the odd chink of light and please bear in mind with the resources available we are languishing in 18th and with a real chance of being dragged into the relegation dogfight.

Yeah, but I can't see how Newell or Dowie could do any better

We need a change, a "hot-head". The players have had it easy under Levein and Kelly, Newell would be sucessful here IMO.

I'd like to see Kev Keegan here, for all his faults at least it wouldn't be dull and his teams do put bums on seats, plus he's got teams out of this division before
