One point I've not seen anyone mention.

Today's defeat was essentially about us failing to defend corners.

The ref was Mike Dean who infamously will give a penalty for any contact in the area.

Our defenders were exceptional at defending corners last season largely because they fouled and man-handled opponents all over the place.

Could be the defence were determined not to foul in the area and the result is that they actually are pretty awful at defending without fouling.

I was wondering more if it wasn't due to missing Schmeichel's communication.

Zieler looks ok, but he never seems very vocal or like a good organiser.

Just seems odd that the one player gets a 5 for not bothering and another gets a 2 when he's brought on with nothing to play for. Wouldn't argue if both were given a 2 though.

I guess we saw it differently. After all these are my opinions, post yours and I'm sure someone will disagree.

Again, I thought Vardy made an effort, I thought Schlup did nothing at all.

I disagree that Jeff was brought on with nothing to play for - it was half time and there's always something to play for- especially for a player who is on the fringes of the squad after an injury - look at how much effort Gray put in.

Someone on the BBCSport site made the same point, I seem to remember Spuds fans saying that we got away with too many defensive holdings etc. last season.

Slimani looked disinterested today. Might be as well that he plays mostly in home games and away games against teams who play the same midfield as ourselves. Shinji would have been a better bet today as a link between the midfield and attack.
Having got 2 goals on Tuesday he would have likely played with confidence too.

Too many passes went astray* although DD did try his best and great half by Gray.
*Albrighton Amartey Mahrez Schlupp Fuchs Simpson as well as Vardy (has he had a worst game?) Slimani were all at fault. Morgan and Huth gave Zlatan too much respect, as did our midfield to Pogba.
I see Simpson and DD greated Pogba like an old mate at the end of the game.

Are you suggesting that without Schmeichel they fall to bits and forget what to do?

I thought Ziegel had a great game and was not at fault for any of the goals. I am sure he shouted and marshalled the defence just like Schmeichel does.

3 goals were from corners FFS. That is nothing to do with the goalie and everything to do with man marking and being the right side of the player when the ball comes in.

If you noticed, in defence our backs come inside to force the opposition out wide so they have to make crosses that Morgan and Huth normally deal with with ease.

I am sure some of the training on Monday will be on defending set pieces. I am sure Porto had their TV recorders running, so will be looking to take advantage.

Of course I know I got shot down and castigated for suggesting it the first time, but there is always the Hernandez option as a defensive midfielder with a devastating throw, if Amartez and King are not cutting it.

The defence is more of a concern than midfield for me. Amartey will get some shit for not being Kante but Kante wouldn't have made a difference for 3 of the goals unless he was allowed some stilts. Maybe we were scared of giving away pens, we were playing a team that would be given one should it stay at 0-0 too long.

And there is the truth. Last season was wonderful, beyond our wildest dreams, but this is a new season and it's about time the players and supporters realised that you are only as good as your current performance.

I love that little video montage they are playing before our home games, the one culminating in Bocelli's Nessun Dorma finale, but not sure if we should still be dwelling on what happened last season.

Also, our fans singing "we know what we are, Champions of England..." would be great if we weren't currently being turned over.

That's not to knock our incredible support by the way, they were the only ones heard on the box today. Well done all who went.
