Once again I will reiterate, however, that people would be well advised to steer clear from making these sorts of claims about people like Martin Allen unless they are willing to support them.

Stop repeating them, then

FFS, some people :icon_roll

I've heard two of the stories referred to in this thread, ie that Allen had been snorting coke at the training ground <which would explain the confidentiality clause which supposedly protects Allen but NOT the fact that he wasn't fired INSTANTLY when he was found out> and that Allen punched Clarke <which would explain the bizarre timing of his dismissal within 24 hours of a player nearly dying>. Depending on who you speak to it's one or the other.

Milan added fuel when he said 'maybe one day you will find out', but if the chairman knows the real reason - and that reason is one of the above - why was Allen not simply fired? What did Mandaric have to gain from granting him a pay-off and a confidentiality clause for gross misconduct, no matter how small it might have been? And how come Allen was interviewed by Norwich if he's so notorious?

To me, it seems there has been some sort of smear campaign against Allen started from within the club. The coke accusation simply doesn't fit in with how ex-teammates described him, as a 'model pro' who made enemies at West Ham when he objected to the wayward behaviour of senior players.

The reason I'm re-raising this is simple - where did these stories come from? It seems especially relevant now bearing in mind what Holloway had to say about Allen's dismissal at the time, when he was unusually critical of Milan. I'd like to know what this magic info is, or is it just another example of people claiming they're in the know?

Irrespective of why he was fired the answer to this is simple - fire MA2 and publish why, pay £X thousand pay off, or, fire him with disclosure agreement and pay £X-Alot in pay off, practically nothing I heard mention

I liked Martin Allen. He seemed a really likeable cockney type guy who didn't mind having a go when we were a goal or two behind. Tactically I respect him. I don't know why he was sacked but until Holloway leads us to a 4-1 win over the team at the top of the ladder he will be, for me at least, a big loss. Megson was crap, good luck Bolton, and I think Burrows had an ingrown moustache which made him copy Megson's crap "let's play for a draw" tactics. I wish Holloway all the best. Let's hope he is successful and stays for longer than Purple Moon in the Melbourne Cup. :icon_conf

I honestly think Burrows and Taggs were told to "hold the fort" until he got a new manager, and make sure we didn't start a losing streak.

You may be right. He certainly kept Megson's formula of picking defenders in midfield. Good riddance to both of them. Although I must say I preferred Burrows to Megson, traitorous ginger judas that he was. :icon_conf

Moderators can see deleted messages. They can also see when messages have been edited, although not what was edited (in or out).

I am able to delete messages without leaving a trace for moderators to see. But I haven't done that in this thread, I've only just noticed the thread had been resurrected.

But I can't see what was changed when posts are edited, although a full log of changes will be available in the next release of the forum software - due for beta release in a couple of weeks.

The truth is out there...

The fact is there were stories in the papers saying MA2 was going to get the sack.

If it was known about beforehand, I don't think the drug stories could be true, he would have been sacked immediately.

This also means the stories about what happened at the f*r*st match are also likely to be untrue, unless MA2 was so pissed off because he knew he was getting the sack he decided to take it out on someone. But if that's the case I can think of more deserving candidates.

If either of those things was true, it would be gross misconduct and he could have been sacked with no need for a pay off, and there would be no reason for the confidentiality thing.

The most likely reason is that MA2 and MM just didn't get on, and MM decided to get rid of him before their relationship broke down to a level where it became unworkable.

What is obvious and FACT is MA2 has not bounced back into another job. Any manager just looking at our results and change in spirit at the time would surely think MA2 was worth a punt, unless of course the Manager's Grapevine is carrying similar information to that we are speculating about.

Unless someone's out to get him - just like someone was out to get Smegson....
