incredibly gutless way for Mattock to handle this, but money into the club for a player that doesnt want to be here can only be good.

I'm not sure that is wholly in his best interest. If he had waited until the end of his contract, he would have been able to command a much higher signing-on fee on the grounds that his new club had no transfer fee to pay.

And I would say that it is very good business for City to get money now where in a year's time they would get nothing - and for a player who really hasn't got a care for the club.

Why would we get nothing for him? Am I missing something really obvious or is this a rare oversight by you?

I think Frank Rolling could fill the gap.

I'm surprised a pedant like you doesn't know the difference between a transfer fee and a compensation payment.

Pedantic I might be, but a compensation payment still involves exchange of some sort of financial, erm, compensation. There is, in terms of end result, no difference.

The compensation would be a lot less than a transfer fee. It might not be 'nothing', but I don't think Boc meant it literally.

Compensation payments tend to be pretty fair, despite what Simon Jordan says. I don't think there's any real indication that a tribunal-settled fee (if it did come to that) would be any less than what we're getting now.

All that considered, I'd still far rather get rid now and make sure we get the money just in case something does go wrong. As an added bonus, we get rid of a player who doesn't want to be here.

since when did the word promising just mean being young? if thats the case I'm going to sell buckets of my jizz to all the top clubs just incase they can produce the next Maldini from it. Think with the quantity of drink and tabs I consume that its more likely to produce the next John Curtis or Joe Mattock. should make a ****ing fortune still though

The thing with this is that we all know Mattock is overated, fair enough. However its his potential that makes this a huge loss.

Being bled through with first team football and England call-ups could have turned him into a quality player, hes only 19 remember.

There is no excuse for him to leave for another club in the same league with similar ambitions to us. Pathetic.

I totally agree this is why we have been robbed!!!!

Delph 6million Mattock 1-2million absolute joke!?

yeah one thing I will say about ken bates he knows how to get good prices for his players. Left backs especially english ones tend to be a hard position to fill. So I would have expected nearer 4 million for mattock.

i wouldnt expect 4mil for him at all, im happy with anything over 500k. Delph was extremely over-priced rather than Mattock being under-priced for me.
