I don't remember anyone saying they expected big money signings?

In fairness, it was the picture being painted by the likes of Bill Blanderson and I've seen plenty of posts on here that imply that Milan is going to be getting busy with the cheque book.

...and no, I can't be arsed to find them. :icon_wink

Haha, I only lie to people when there's personal gain in it for me, in this instance you can sleep well.

Seriously though, did you not pick up the expectation from people that we have in Milan a sugar daddy Abramovich type who is going to be splashing the cash left, right & centre?
That is obviously a long way from the truth, but it seems to me to be the expectation of a lot of fans.

I see that Gillingham - yes, Gillingham - are now a nett £850,000 ahead of City in the transfer fee spending race.

I can't remember him saying he'll get us promoted within three years. I'm amazed he would make that kind of commitment.

On the day it was announced that Milan's bid had (finally) been accepted, he made a statement at a press conference at the Walkers. Among other things he said, "I can assure you that if I don't take this club up [to the Premier League] in a three year period I will view that as failure and that is a word that nobody associates with me."

Sounds like a commitment to me!

I think that a lot of stupid people did believe that Leicester were being taken over by a big spender. The more discerning folk who were keen on the takeover saw it as a way out from the dead hand of the previous regime and an opportunity for some strong management to sort out the club.

As i have previously posted, I anticipate that Milan's involvement will be relatively short term - i.e. a strategy of getting promotion and then selling the club on for a profit on the back of the financial reward.

However, it's not going to be easy given the fact that he is not a big spender and that quality players in their prime are not likely to be that keen to sign for us.

On the plus side - this is a crap division and it's quite credible that a team could go from zero to hero with some squad improvements and decent management.

We shall see.

But he didn't say he would get us promoted within three years, he might have said that was his target, but he wasn't stupid enough to say it would definitely happen.

Correct Macky. The funds touted by Blanderson was in the region of 8 to 9 million.

I am very nervous now with Milan that he's trying to get us promoted as cheap as he can and then sell us to the next foreign bloke looking to invest in a Premiership club.

I think what you are trying to say is that he didn't make a binding commitment - and you are right about that. But he made a clear statement of his intention and I think, in most people's minds, this would have been seen as a commitment.

Obviously - but this is because he knew that most supporters are naive when it comes to their own club and he wanted them to spend their money based on hope and expectation.

There is no means available for Milan or anyone else to guarantee promotion - and it's a big ask given the dubious quality of the players he is able to afford in promotion being achieved.

Still at least there are signs of life at the club these days - which there wasn't before the take over.

Oh no, promoted on the cheap, whatever will we do with all the cheaply earned premiership money

Hazz, is this the first time it's dawned on you? :icon_eek: :icon_conf I've been saying this since well before the takeover. I don't necessarily think it's a bad thing, but I bet it's Milan's main plan...

It's not the first time DF. It's just the signings and appointments so far would confirms this cynical view, that he's here for a quick buck.

Who cares? He can't make a quick buck unless we have a least a bit of success, which I would happily take, plus if he sells it would be to somebody else wanting to make a further quick buck, so we would have to be even more successful afterwards!

But if we weren't successful with the second buyer they might asset strip us to make their money back.

The likelihood has always been the sell on. It's obvious really.

The second buyer would presumably have to buy in at the price inflated by the premiership monies - but I can't quite see what assets they could strip from the club.

That's presuming there will be premiership monies.
