I hope we do. Gone are the days when you can stick to your principles of unwavering caution over prices. Many will say '...but we won the league with such an approach' and this is true but this in itself is one of the many moments over the last 3 or so years that has made such a difference to transfer fees. If we want success, sadly, we have to spend over the odds to achieve it. Remember, the market is inflated everywhere so we will find it so much more difficult to uncover hidden gems. We should have learned that last year when we spunked vast amounts of money on, for the most part, unproven junk and we were stung. Would you swap Mendy, Musa and Slimani for Sigurdsson and enough left over for another player? I would, in a heartbeat. Yes, This is a ludicrously high price for Sigurdsson but at least we know what we will be getting.

It's all just a redistribution of Sky's money really anyhow.

Agents have to be controlled, however given that they operate on a world wide basis, FIFA is the only organisation with the power to implement meaningful change. I am not sure about Sigurdsson. Mind you, I am also not convinced about Iheanacho. I am sure I read that Sigurdsson's stats from open play are not that impressive. I would also say, if he is a £50 million pound player, then why are none of the big teams interested? Incidentally, I think Everton will underachieve this season.

I like others think we lack creativity and believe that if we lose Mahrez we will be in trouble. Though I also think that Mahrez is quite unique. There are not many premiership players with his level of technical ability and also his level of creativity. We give him the ball and expect him to produce something from nothing. There are not many premiership players with that kind of quality.

If Mahrez does go we will not replace him. I believe we will need to come to terms with the fact that he is a one in a million player.

I was watching the CONCACAF Gold Cup semi final last night and they cut to the stands and there sat Gianni Infantino surrounded by empty seats. The commentators, one of which was Brad Friedel were quite amused by the fact that no one wanted to be seen with him.

It's not hate really though is it? It's exasperation born out of frustration I think (at least for me, anyway). Yes, he works hard but not smart. He charges around the pitch like a bull whilst his brain is often in neutral and gives away countless fouls. It's sometimes akin to watching young children play football where they all chase the ball like wasps with no real idea of where they should be at any given moment.

He scores goals sometimes, this is correct but only really one dimensionally. Defenders know that if they can nullify head height crosses, Slimani probably won't offer anything else. There could be a very good footballer there somewhere and with time we may see it but all evidence thus far suggests that he isn't a very bright one.

It's not his strength but he's doing it anyway as he can't play at the same time as Vardy otherwise, unfortunately for him.

He's deadly in the air, positioning, timing and technically. It's not as simple as defenders beating him to the ball, he's more aware and better at anticipating the ball than them, as proven by his excellent header against Liverpool.

I'm sure he carries much frustration himself, frustration that we hardly ever play him in position or to his strengths.

Inverted wingers are not what he needs, especially one that rarely crosses a ball

There's no way on earth you can be sure of this. I'd be willing to bet he's not told to do this at all but chooses to because he thinks it will make things happen. It won't.

He's good in the air but he needs far more to his game. Thus far he's proven to be pretty poor with the ball at his feet - he can't shoot, pass or tackle very well at all on the evidence we have seen. You can't keep saying that we aren't 'playing to his strength' - he has to find a way to develop his game so that his stregths are more than a single entity.

Levy is a hypocrite. When Spurs had money; they spent freely. Since they've had to tighten their belts because they have a stadium to pay for, he's trotting out this nonsense.

They can't compete for the best players so Spurs will gradually decline from their current comparative over-achievement. Much like us, they got lucky with a good group of players.

Very few Premier League clubs are spending beyond their (or their owners) means.

I disagree. I actually don't think Spurs have "spent freely". They spent a lot of money when they sold Bale, but that was within their means, which is the point.

I agree with his general point of:

"Some of the activity that is going on at the moment is just impossible for it to be sustainable.

Somebody spending £200m more than they're earning, eventually it catches up with you. And you can't keep doing it."

Yeah I think he has a point. I don't like Spurs, but you've got to admire their set up. Investing in English talent and one of the few larger clubs that is prepared to give that young English talent a go at the top end of the football pyramid. Well run club. I have a feeling it's all going to go tits up for Everton. They've paid through the nose for what is mostly 'potential' in relatively inexperienced young players that are now expected to gel together and all under a manager that is, quite frankly - not very good.
