Speculation Motown's hysterical and annoying, but traditional, totally unfounded Summer 2017 rumours thread

Shit.

Money.

Down.

The.

Drain.

I don't agree. I like Deeney and always have. I think he's an ideal player for us and probably this is the summer that we'll be able to get him from Watford at last.

If we can add Iheanacho as well and ditch Musa, Ulloa and possibly Slimani, we've substantially strengthened our forward line.

I concur.

Twelve months ago i wouldn't have disagreed

But this past season he has been beyond awful, and has piled on a tonne of blubber to boot

Speak to any (proper) Watford fan and they'll happily tell you what a lazy slob he has been

Weve regressed big time if thats the best we can do.

I agree. Homer's right in that he wasn't good last year but he was frustrated by poor management and a lack of quality around him. Perhaps he also regretted not moving when he could and wasn't committed - a bad sign I know but he could still do very well elsewhere. The raw talent is definitely there in abundance and he's a million miles better than Musa, Ulloa and, arguably I guess, Slimani on what we've seen thus far.

Iborra and Deeney both sound like good signings if we're going back to ultra-conservative, work hard not to concede but then concede from a shit corner to lose 1-0, Pearson-sequel...

..umm, that just auto-corrected from 'esque' to sequel and I was about to re-type it and carry on ranting but then I realised that Pearson-sequel perfectly describes the situation. Ladies and gentlemen welcome to the Pearson Sequel.

It's going to be like a Batman sequel with Robin playing Batman.

Deeney is a weird one for me.

Makes me think Ihneacheo won't happen, or Slimani is going.

Can't see a £20m+ signing up front coming in as 4th choice (or us keeping a £35m signing from last year to be 4th choice

If the answer to the question is "Troy ****ing Deeney", then the question was written in a foreign language and put through Google Translate.

Holy ****ing shit ****ing balls. What a screaming clusterfuck of a decision.

A bit like any (proper) Leicester fan would tell you about Mahrez?

Spot on boc. I was just going to say much the same thing.

Deeney spoke at length about his decision last summer to stay at Watford rather than sign for the (then) Champions. He incorrectly rationalised it as 'how could he improve us?'. He was put under immense pressure from the club and fans to stay and did the honourable thing.

I'd argue that the last 12 months have shown him exactly how he can improve us and exactly that he made the wrong call a year ago and he probably knows it better than anyone. Just like I expect Mahrez now thinks he did both the honourable thing last summer and the wrong thing for his career.

Deeney's last season was one where he fell out with their manager (one of many by the way) and lost his way. Similar has happened to loads of players - Vardy in his first season at Leicester, Drinkwater last season or in the play off season, Fuchs last season, etc, etc. It doesn't mean that player is finished or useless.

In fact, I'd argue that signing Deeney now is the best possible timing for us. He'll be more determined to do well than ever if he joins us.

Or one or both players could be lazy shits or they have regressed or they are suited to only one system or many other things.

Point well made - completely agree.

When both played regularly the records of Ulloa and Deeney are quite similar.

Ulloa scored 11 when used fully, Deeney scored 10 and 13.
