Speculation Motown's hysterical and annoying, but traditional, totally unfounded Summer 2017 rumours thread

Assuming we could match the fee and wages, and we were trying to get him, is there any obvious reason why he would go to Everton rather than to us?

Their manager, any of their players, the weather?
Because Everton are currently a bigger and more ambitious club than us, with a better manager, and are much less likely to be fighting in the bottom half of the table this season.

Spot on - I doubt that he deliberated for a single second regarding which club to pick

What makes Everton a biger club than us? Stadium, recent success?

Nothing, they aren't.

However they have better players and a better manager.

They also seem to be backing their ambitions up with top signings.

Sad to say, but unfortunately I think it is entirely down to the manager. If we had a 'name' like Ranieri or Koeman or de Boer then there is no difference in attraction.

At least we're the No 1 team in our City

And as Bill Shankly would have reminded us they are not even the second team in theirs:

"There are two great teams on Merseyside. Liverpool and Liverpool Reserves."

Everton 2 points clear of Liverpool, with only goal difference separating them from a CL spot

I think we need to be more interested in Barkley. Even if this is via a one-year loan deal with a fixed figure to buy. Everton aren't selling him in this window IMO.

The England midfielder went for a scan on a hamstring injury yesterday and there are suggestions he will now be out for six weeks.

If we had a 'name' like Ranieri, we would probably be plying our trade in the Championship.

That's a bummer.

BUT Then surely Leicester would be a good place to do his rehabilitation - if we can get Matty James back out on the field we can do it for anyone.

We shouldn't be paying 100% of his wages. but he could be useful for at least half the season. Plus Everton would get to put him in the shop window for January.
